What is an Automated Insulin Delivery System?
It is a system that uses an algorithm to communicate between an insulin pump and the data being received from a continuous glucose monitor.
In the US, some of the more common A.I.D systems on the market include the iLet, the Omnipod5, Medtronic MiniMed™ 780G, Tandem t:slim X2™ with Basal-IQ/Control-IQ Technology, and twiist™ Automated Insulin Delivery System powered by Tidepool.
Another class of A.I.D. systems are called "open-source Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) systems". These have been created by people in the "WeAreNotWaiting" community and include systems like Loop, Trio, iAPS, and AndroidAPS.
If you are wondering if a DIY A.I.D. system is right for you, head over to the Type 1 University.
In the lecture titled, DIY Open-source Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) Systems, Dana Roseman, the Director of Technology and Applied Research at Integrated Diabetes Services shares with you how these systems work, the pros and cons of an open-source system, and the features each system offers.
This class is designed for healthcare professionals, people living with diabetes, and caregivers interested in DIY systems like Loop, Trio, iAPS, and AndroidAPS.
