4 Paws For Ability

4 Paws For Ability Enriching the lives of people with disabilities by placing life-changing service dogs. In all cases, the results speak for themselves.

4 Paws for Ability enriches the lives of children with disabilities by training and placing quality, task-trained service dogs. This provides increased independence for the children, and assistance to their families. And 4 Paws also works with veterans from recent conflicts who’ve lost the use of their limbs or their hearing while in active combat.

Service dog Adak and 4 Paws Executive Director Jennifer Lutes recently joined the staff at JPMorganChase to discuss our mission and the difference our dogs make in the lives of children & veterans with disabilities. While the pair was there, they accepted an incredible $25,000 donation from their Giving Tuesday State Challenge.

Thank you, JPMorganChase!

We need your help this summer!

If you love dogs and love to help people, 4 Paws would love to have you! 💜🐾 We are looking for folks with big hearts who have availability to volunteer onsite and to foster service dogs in training.

Onsite volunteering roles include taking dogs out to play, bathing them, walking dogs, and greeting visitors at our front desk. We also offer fostering opportunities with dogs between 12 weeks and 1 year old!

All training, supplies, food, and veterinary care are provided. Full-time roles are our priority need, but part-time roles are an occasional option.

Fun fact: dogs in our program have public access rights, which means they get to go into stores, restaurants, movie theaters, and practically everywhere you go, even zoos!

“My son has PMG, a rare brain amalgamation. Because of that, he has epilepsy and autism. He struggles in daily life, and the biggest thing is that he has seizures of varying varieties.

We’re really grateful to have Gemini as part of our family to help Nick gain independence. She’s learned tasks like pushing a button when he has a seizure that will call our cell phone. That’s something we didn’t even know was possible!

She can get a med bag from across the house with rescue medication when he’s having a seizure. These skills are really life-changing. We could have never imagined a service dog was capable of something like this.”

-Dustin, dad of Nick & service dog Gemini

There’s a good chance that you will encounter a four-legged friend during your Weekend plans, but as dogs and other animals become more common in public places, there is often confusion about the different types of assistance dogs, including service dogs, therapy dogs, and emotional support animals.

Service dogs are specially trained to assist people with disabilities in performing daily tasks. These tasks can range from tracking chemical changes in epileptic children, scent tracking kids who have eloped, or retrieving objects for a person with mobility issues.

In contrast, therapy dogs do not have…
