Last year I planted a variety of Greek Mullein. It's blooming now and I'm in love with this Mullein. It still has the nice fuzzy leaves, but they are a little narrower and longer. The flowers are impressive. Beautiful large flowers blooming in groups. I can't help but wonder if these will cross pollinate with our native Mullein and produce an even different looking flower. I always let the Mullein plants go to seed at the end of the season. It will be interesting to see what blossoms look like in two years.

While working in the garden without gloves I was reminded of a solution to stop the sting of Stinging Nettles. Yellow Dock leaves! Just rub the leaves on the spot and the stinging goes away.

Can you tell what I've been doing? I've been collectng St Johns Wort flowers! It's so magical picking the bright yellow flowers that turn your fingers and the oil or tincture you make into a redish purple. The only time you can make a good potent oil or tincture from St Johns Wort is when the plants are in bloom. Dried flowers don't give you the same results. So while the plants are in bloom I collect these precious petals everyday and add them to organic sunflower oil or a good vodka for infused oils and tinctures.
Lately I've been using the St Johns Wort oil on knots in my shoulders and neck. It does offer some relief from pain as the knots reduce iin size. I reapply the oil as needed.

The weather today was perfect! ...that is if you have many seedlings to transplant. I've been patiently waiting for a day just like today to get started. Cool, cloudy and not windy! The various Violas, Lavender, Echinacea purputea, Lobelia, Horehound, Oregano and Alpine Strawberries are now in the gardens. I even up-potted this year's Gogi plants. Last years plants will be getting larger pots too. I have a long way to go, but I'm happy with today's progress..

There's a blue moon tonight into tomorrow morning This is actually going to be a micro-moon (when the moon is at it's farthest point from the earth).. Here's some suggestions on what you can do to take advantage of the moon's energy . Don't forget to set out a jar of water in the moonlight to make some extra special moon water tonight.

For my fellow fibro-warriors here's an article I ran across today. You've probably figured some of these out already. I think the point I'd like to make is we should be doing these things BEFORE we get to the flare stage. Hope this helps someone get some relief.

Spring is my favorite season. I love seeing all the plants emerge and finding new ones. Dandelions are blooming and the Valerian won't be waiting much longer to bloom. I found violas I planted last year blooming before I could even transplant this year's seedlings. I love finding all the new volunteers that come up where ever they please. This one small spot has Mullein, Plantain, Yarrow, Spearmint and Evening Primrose. What a treasure!

I had my first harvest of Mullein leaves today. Last year I planted some Greek Mullein in addition to the local Mullein that comes up volunteer.. The Greek Mullein has thicker leaves and is supposed to produce all it's flowers at once, instead of in waves like local Mullein does. So far I'm very happy with the growth. Nice thick large leaves! Since Mullein is a biennial it should set flowers this year. You can be sure I'll be letting a few flower stalks go to seed.
