📞 When you call 911, every second matters.

In an emergency, being able to provide clear, accurate information can help dispatchers understand what’s happening and get the right resources headed your way.

Be ready to share:
📍 Your exact location — including an address, apartment number, business name or nearby landmark.
📞 Your phone number — in case the call is disconnected.
🆘 What happened — briefly describe the emergency.
👤 Who needs help — including their approximate age and current condition.
❤️ Important symptoms — such as difficulty breathing, chest pain, severe bleeding or unconsciousness.

Most importantly, stay on the line and follow the dispatcher’s instructions. They may be able to help you provide care until first responders arrive.
Preparation starts with knowing what to do when you need help.

September is National Preparedness Month, and throughout the month, Bi-County Ambulance will be sharing practical tips to help you and your family prepare before an emergency happens.

We’ll cover everything from what information to have ready when calling 911 and building a household emergency kit to organizing important medical information and preparing children, seniors and medically vulnerable family members.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL SAFETY: Be Prepared for the Unexpected

A new school year is the perfect time to review your family's emergency plan.

Talk with your children about:
👍 Who their trusted adults are at school.
👍 How to safely cross streets and use crosswalks.
👍 What to do if they become separated from a parent or caregiver.
👍 When and how to call 911 in an emergency.
👍 The importance of knowing their home address and a parent's phone number.

Preparation builds confidence—for both children and parents.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL SAFETY: Stop Means Stop.

When a school bus extends its stop arm and flashing red lights are activated, children may be crossing the street from any direction.

Ignoring a stopped school bus puts young lives at risk.

Remember:
👉 Stop whenever required by California law when approaching a stopped school bus with flashing red lights.
👉 Remain stopped until the lights stop flashing and the stop arm is withdrawn.
👉 Watch carefully for children who may still be crossing after the bus begins moving.
👉 Be especially alert during the first few weeks of school as new routines are established.

Every bus stop is a reminder that children's safety comes first.

A few moments of patience can prevent a lifetime of regret.
