There is a family of 6 that has been living between two hotel rooms for nearly a year now.
This is not a family of strangers to me. I know them very well. I have walked beside them through some of the most beautiful moments of their lives and have even had the honor of delivering a few of their babies. I have seen their love for their children, their perseverance, and the weight they have quietly carried while trying to survive an incredibly difficult season.
Life can change so quickly. One difficult season, one financial setback, one unexpected circumstance, and people can find themselves simply trying to survive day by day.
What many people do not realize is how incredibly expensive it is to be homeless. Hotel rooms cost far more long term than rent, but often require less money upfront than deposits, first month’s rent, utility hookups, applications, and credit checks. Add in the cost of constantly eating on the go, laundry facilities, gas, storage, and trying to maintain work and school while living in survival mode, and families can become trapped in a cycle that is so hard to escape.
When you are barely keeping your head above water, it becomes almost impossible to save enough to get out.
This family is not asking for judgment, criticism, or opinions. They are simply trying to hold their family together while they fight their way back to stable ground.
So today, I am asking from my heart, if anyone happens to have:
• a small camper
• a tiny home
• a mother-in-law suite
• a temporary rental
• or knows of a safe affordable place for a family to stay while they rebuild (all government housing and local shelters have been pursued.)
please reach out to me privately.
And if you are not in a position to help financially or physically, I completely understand. But I would ask you to pray for them. Pray for open doors, peace, provision, strength, and hope.
Most importantly, please be kind.
We never fully know the battles another person is carrying, and none of us can truly walk in someone else’s shoes. Sometimes people do not need lectures. They need compassion. They need dignity. They need someone willing to see their humanity in the middle of hardship.
Thank you for reading this with love. -Midwife Lucie
