Tasteful Tidbits

Tasteful Tidbits I work with the idea of 'Food as Medicine' and understand and address your health as a whole.

By identifying root causes, we can treat, reverse and prevent chronic diseases rather than just putting a band-aid on the problem.

Feed your gut, not your face.
Why? Beacuse all disease begins in the gut.
Your gut feeds YOU!
How do you like to treat your gut? I like to begin by CHEWING really well. Chew, even if it is a smoothie, because digestive enzymes begin at the thought of food and help break down what you consume to nourish you.

If you do not know if you mouth or nose-breathe, ask your partner or friend. If you are aware that you mouth breathe how do you address it? Some of my clients tape their mouth, others ask their partner to nudge them to reposition, etc...

A cold shock every morning triggers an immediate physiological reaction. It triggers the bone marrow, where immune cells are produced. It floods the body with dopamine & norepinephrine which reduces sympathetic inflammation, improves circulation, sharpens your mental state & slows aging.
Comment below if you use any form of cold therapy and how it makes you feel.

The Vagal Nerve (Gut-Brain Axis) is the largest nerve in our body. It is unique to mammals. It is part of our parasympathetic (rest & digest portion of our nervous system). This gut-brain axis is used to explain the bi-directional neural pathway between our emotions & cognitive centers. This is why physiological disturbances in the gut can often be seen in mood, pain, perception & behavior. Do you know what the biggest stimulator for this nerve is? COMPASSION! Did you know our brain & our gut originate early in embryogenesis from the same clump of tissue which divides during fetal development? Cool huh! Have you ever wondered why we get butterflies in our tummy when we're excitedly nervous? We are connected!

You may feel like something is off. You may be experiencing poor sleep, weight changes, fatigue, & brain fog. You go to the doctor to learn what's going on & get some lab work. However, many of these symptoms end with a similar result. Your appointment is typically 15 minutes but often the treatment offered is that you leave with a prescription for a statin and no real answers.
If you request a specific lab/test and your doctor says it is not necessary because your lab work is "normal". You can respond by saying something like, "I understand it may not be not be standard but I'm happy to pay out of pocket. AND/OR Normal for the population but what is optimal? What would you want to see at my age with my history." Also, if a request is denied, Ask, "Could you please make a note in my chart that I requested this lab/test and it was denied?" This often will change a course of treatment.
Lastly, because appointments are typically 15 minutes, do some homework before the appointment. If you feel rushed and unheard, say, "Before we finish, I have some questions written down. May I leave them with you? Written questions cannot be forgotten. It indicates that you were trying to be prepared and are concerned for your health. More often than not, doctors respect this and will address them, with a phone call or follow-up appointment.
Be your own advocate. Your doctor is not your enemy. The system is just 15 minutes and a standard lab panel. Advocate for your own health with the right questions, right tests and never be afraid to have them make note in your chart if you are denied a request.
🧐 If you feel unheard and are not finding results to your "off" feeling. Feel free to contact me. I am not regulated by the standard 15 minutes and address the root cause(s) of your symptoms with a listening ear, diet and lifestyle changes to truly get you feeling normal again. www.TastefulTidbits.com

Silymarin aka (Milk Thistle) is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound from the milk thistle seeds. It has been used for hundreds of years in protecting the liver from toxins. This plant spreads rapidly and is considered a w**d in many parts. I like to incorporate it spring liver cleanses as well as after surgeries to aid in detoxifying the liver from anesthesia/medications.

Simple swaps add up over time 👇
👍Instead of plastic, try glass cups, jars, & storage containers.
👍Spend as much time outdoors as possible. 2-4 hours every day. It's okay to start small with 30 minutes.
👉 Instead of non-stick pans, try cast iron or stainless steel.
👉Opt for fragrance-free or naturally scented products.
👉Don't be fooled by marketing on the newest plastic anti-wicking fabrics...Try natural fabrics like, wool, cotton, or silk.
👉Hydration is key to life. Try to use a stainless steel or glass water bottle instead of drinking out of plastic. Sip constantly throughout the day for best results. If you don't like the taste of plain water and in some fruit slices & spices.
👉Never stop moving. Our bodies are designed to move. Health is dependent on movement.
