PART 1 – THE BOAT’S BATHROOM SYSTEM: THINGS YOU ONLY UNDERSTAND WHEN YOU TOUCH THE WATER
A boat is not just sails filled with wind…
it’s every smallest detail – like the bathroom system – where you truly understand how your boat lives.
Our boat has two bathrooms.
Each one tells a very different story.
Bathroom 1
This is a “multi-purpose” space – with two doors, serving both guests and directly connected to the small cabin. Extremely convenient for long nights at sea.
During inspection, we found:
– Freshwater intake and discharge system working well
– Toilet in good condition
– But the shower was old, and the bilge pump was completely broken
Thankfully, with help from SV Fugu, we found a small alternative power source to reconnect the bilge pump.
The moment the water beneath the floor was pumped out smoothly… was pure relief.
👉 Bathroom 1 is “back to life” – just waiting for a new shower set to be complete.
Bathroom 2 – where the real challenge begins…
This is the private bathroom for the master cabin – enclosed, but also the most “demanding.”
The toilet system uses seawater for intake and direct discharge, so while the boat is still on land… it’s almost impossible to test properly.
And as expected:
👉 The toilet was completely non-functional.
We began the repair journey:
– Replaced the pump (1st time) → it could only discharge, not intake 🤣
– Continued researching (AI, YouTube, everything we could)
– Ordered a new pump from Korea
This time:
👉 It could draw seawater in… but could not discharge it out
The real issue revealed itself when we checked the pipes.
Inside, it wasn’t just water…
but thick, hardened deposits like plaster built up over time.
We tapped along the pipes…
and chunks started falling out. A lot of them.
We managed to clean about half the system – but it wasn’t enough.
The blockage was still there, somewhere deeper.
In the end, there was no other option:
👉 We had to replace the entire long hose leading out through the hull.
With the help of Humbert – technician at Varadero Marina Aruba,
we completed the toughest part of this job.
🥲 A task no one “sees” when looking at a beautiful boat…
but one that determines whether you can truly live comfortably at sea.
Sailing is not just sunset photos.
It’s fixing every screw, understanding every pipe,
and learning patience… even with a toilet.
And because of that,
every time the boat runs smoothly,
you know you’re one step closer to freedom.
🌊파트 1 – 보트의 욕실 시스템: 물 위에 떠야 비로소 알게 되는 것들
보트는 단순히 바람을 받는 돛만이 아닙니다…
욕실 시스템 같은 아주 작은 부분까지, 그 배가 어떻게 “살아가는지”를 보여줍니다.
우리 보트에는 욕실이 두 개 있습니다.
그리고 각각은 전혀 다른 이야기를 가지고 있습니다.
욕실 1
이곳은 다용도 공간입니다.
두 개의 문이 있어 손님도 사용할 수 있고, 작은 침실과도 바로 연결되어 있어 밤에 사용하기에 매우 편리합니다.
점검 결과:
– 담수 흡입 및 배출 시스템 정상 작동
– 변기 상태 양호
– 하지만 샤워기는 오래되었고, 빌지 펌프(바닥 물 배출 펌프)는 완전히 고장
다행히 SV Fugu의 도움으로 작은 대체 전원을 찾아
빌지 펌프를 다시 연결할 수 있었습니다.
바닥 아래 물이 부드럽게 빠져나가는 순간…
정말 안도감이 들었습니다.
👉 욕실 1은 다시 “살아났고”, 이제 샤워기만 교체하면 완성입니다.
욕실 2 – 진짜 도전은 여기서 시작됩니다…
이곳은 메인 침실 전용 욕실로,
프라이빗하지만 가장 까다로운 공간입니다.
이 변기 시스템은 바닷물을 흡입해 바로 배출하는 방식이라
보트가 육지에 있을 때는 제대로 테스트가 거의 불가능합니다.
그리고 예상대로:
👉 변기는 완전히 작동하지 않았습니다.
수리를 시작했습니다:
– 첫 번째 펌프 교체 → 배출만 되고 흡입이 안 됨 🤣
– AI, 유튜브 등 모든 방법으로 계속 연구
– 한국에서 새 펌프 주문
이번에는:
👉 바닷물 흡입은 가능하지만… 배출이 안 됨
문제의 원인은 배관을 점검하면서 드러났습니다.
그 안에는 단순한 물이 아니라,
석고처럼 굳어버린 찌꺼기가 쌓여 있었습니다.
배관을 하나씩 두드리자…
덩어리들이 계속 떨어져 나왔습니다.
절반 정도는 청소했지만 여전히 부족했습니다.
어딘가 더 깊은 곳에 막힘이 남아 있었기 때문입니다.
결국 선택은 하나뿐이었습니다:
👉 선체 밖으로 이어지는 긴 배관 전체를 교체해야 했습니다.
Varadero Marina Aruba의 기술자 Humbert의 도움으로
가장 어려운 작업을 마칠 수 있었습니다.
🥲 겉으로는 보이지 않지만,
바다 위에서 편안하게 살아갈 수 있는지를 결정하는 중요한 작업이었습니다.
세일링은 단순한 노을 사진이 아닙니다.
하나하나 고치고, 구조를 이해하고,
때로는 변기 하나에도 인내를 배우는 과정입니다.
그렇기 때문에,
배가 완벽하게 작동하는 순간마다
우리는 자유에 한 걸음 더 가까워집니다. 🌊✨
