▫️ At Saigon ITO Phu Nhuan Hospital (part of the SAIGON-ITO Hospital System), patient L.A.T., born in 2012 from Dak Lak Province, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of the distal right femur—a highly aggressive and life-threatening form of bone cancer. At an age when she should have been enjoying school days, spending time with friends, and dreaming about a bright future, T. instead had to face the pain of a serious illness and the risk of permanent disability due to amputation or loss of normal mobility.

▫️ After evaluating her condition and confirming that the tumor responded well to chemotherapy, the SAIGON-ITO medical team decided to perform a limb-salvage surgery involving wide tumor resection combined with Megaprosthesis knee replacement. This advanced procedure enables surgeons to completely remove the cancerous tumor while replacing the affected bone segment with a specialized artificial joint, thereby preserving as much limb function as possible.

▪️ Ms. N.T.H. (born in 1922, residing in Dak Lak Province) was admitted to the hospital with severe pain in her left hip and was unable to walk after a fall at home.

At over 100 years old, and with multiple underlying medical conditions including hypertension, dyslipidemia, ischemic heart disease, and left ventricular diastolic dysfunction, her treatment posed significant challenges for the medical team.

▪️ Faced with this condition, the doctors promptly conducted a multidisciplinary consultation, working closely with Internal Medicine specialists — especially cardiologists — to stabilize her overall health before surgery.

▪️ After a comprehensive evaluation, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Chon, Specialist Level II, Deputy Medical Director of Saigon ITO Phu Nhuan Hospital, decided to proceed with hip replacement surgery. The procedure was supported by modern anesthesia and resuscitation techniques, along with strict management of her underlying diseases.

▪️ Following surgery, the patient was able to perform bedside movements, stand steadily with a walking frame, and begin taking her first steps with the assistance of physical therapy technicians. The successful operation gave her the opportunity to regain mobility.

Admitted to the hospital with a closed fracture of the left femoral neck and severe hip pain, Mr. N.V.T. (born in 1941) decided to undergo a left total hip replacement at SAIGON-ITO Hospital System (Saigon International Orthopedic and Trauma Hospital).

The patient was admitted with multiple underlying medical conditions, including ischemic heart disease, hypertension, and lipid metabolism disorder. He also had a history of stroke and previous prostate cancer surgery.

According to Dr. Bui Duc Luong, Deputy Head of the Outpatient Department at Saigon International Orthopedics and Trauma Hospital, this was an especially complex case due to the patient’s advanced age and multiple comorbidities.

Faced with this challenging situation, the medical team carefully considered the patient’s wish to regain mobility and return to daily activities. A multidisciplinary consultation was conducted with close coordination among the Cardiology, Anesthesiology & Resuscitation, and Orthopaedics departments. The patient’s health indicators were closely monitored and well controlled before, during, and after surgery. The left total hip replacement procedure was successfully performed, ensuring maximum safety for the patient.

Following surgery, the patient remained alert, experienced significant pain relief, and began early rehabilitation exercises under the guidance of the rehabilitation team. After a short recovery period, he was able to sit up and practice walking with assistance, gradually regaining independence in daily activities.

Mr. N.V.T.’s case demonstrates that even elderly patients with multiple complex underlying conditions can still achieve effective treatment outcomes when they receive comprehensive evaluation and appropriate care.
