MEGAPROSTHESIS KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY:
A MIRACLE FOR A 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL'S LEGS
▫️ At Saigon ITO Phu Nhuan Hospital (part of the SAIGON-ITO Hospital System), patient L.A.T., born in 2012 from Dak Lak Province, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of the distal right femur—a highly aggressive and life-threatening form of bone cancer. At an age when she should have been enjoying school days, spending time with friends, and dreaming about a bright future, T. instead had to face the pain of a serious illness and the risk of permanent disability due to amputation or loss of normal mobility.
▫️ After evaluating her condition and confirming that the tumor responded well to chemotherapy, the SAIGON-ITO medical team decided to perform a limb-salvage surgery involving wide tumor resection combined with Megaprosthesis knee replacement. This advanced procedure enables surgeons to completely remove the cancerous tumor while replacing the affected bone segment with a specialized artificial joint, thereby preserving as much limb function as possible.
▫️ This was not only a highly complex surgical procedure but also a journey of determination to preserve her legs, protect her future, and safeguard her childhood.
▫️ The joy was further amplified when the Cham Yeu Thuong Fund of Techcombank partnered with the SAIGON-ITO Hospital System to provide VND 300,000,000 in financial support for T.'s treatment. This compassionate contribution has brought renewed hope and motivation to her family throughout the treatment journey.
▫️ Currently, T. is in stable condition and has begun her first physical therapy sessions. Seeing her smile reminds us that when medical advancement is combined with compassion, no challenge is insurmountable.
▫️ Let us all wish T. a speedy recovery and a joyful return to school!
