It was a joyous day as we opened the HSC and PMEC Healthcare branch in Salelologa.

We were honoured by the presence of the member of the Council of Deputies from Salafai, the Ali‘i ma Faipule of Salelologa, and staff from Tuasivi Hospital.

Dr Le Mamea, a member of our Trust Board, officiated at the opening. He emphasised the Board’s commitment to bringing the affordable healthcare services available at our Motootua centre closer to the people of Savai‘i.

Thank you to our staff, partners and everyone who helped make this milestone possible. We thank Zheng Construction for the build and Talosagafia of Frankie’s for the assistance. We look forward to serving the families and communities of Savai‘i with care, compassion and respect.

The Health Specialist Centre (HSC), Samoa, invites applications from qualified sonographers and radiographers to join our team.

Help us deliver quality diagnostic imaging and compassionate care to our communities.

We are looking for applicants with:

• A recognised qualification in sonography and/or radiography
• Relevant clinical experience and eligibility for professional registration in Samoa
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to patient care
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team

Applicants qualified in both sonography and radiography are especially encouraged to apply. International applications are welcome.

VACANCY: GENERAL PRACTITIONERS

We seek suitably qualified and experienced General Practitioners with some experience in the Pacific Countries.

📍 **HSC Vaitele, Upolu
📍 **HSC Salelologa, Savai‘i

Key responsibilities include:

- Providing high-quality general medical consultations
- Assessing, diagnosing and treating acute and chronic conditions
- Supporting preventive health and chronic disease management
- Making appropriate referrals for specialist, laboratory and imaging services
- Maintaining accurate clinical records
- Working collaboratively with nurses and other health professionals

Applicants should have:

- A recognised medical qualification which will be verified with the SQA
- Current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Samoa Medical Council
- Relevant clinical experience in general practice in the Pacific Islands
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A commitment to compassionate, ethical and patient-centred care

Full-time and part-time arrangements may be considered. Remuneration and working conditions will be discussed with shortlisted applicants.

We are pleased to welcome Dr Tagaloa Robert Thomsen to the Health Specialist Centre team.

Dr Thomsen brings many years of experience as a GP and a corporate leader in health. He will provide care at both our Vaitele and Motootua branches, strengthening our team as we plan to introduce community mobile health services.

🎀 Early detection saves lives.

Regular mammograms can detect breast cancer early and reduce the risk of dying from the disease. For women at average risk, screening every two years from age 40 to 74 is recommended.

Mammograms are available at the Health Specialist Centre. Call 28303 to book your appointment, or speak with your doctor about the right screening schedule for you.

If you notice a breast lump or other changes, see your doctor promptly—don’t wait for your next mammogram.
