Reflection: In Maharshi's Gospel, Bhagavan explains that much of life unfolds according to a greater order. We often think everything depends on our effort, but all things are beyond our control. When this is understood, anxiety begins to fade. Trusting the Higher Power allows the heart to rest in peace.

So this satsang is about how to deceive death. When death comes, how to deceive it. Some people think spirituality and this meditation, mindfulness, is for peace of mind. No, no—it is to make pieces of your mind, so the mind is not left. If it is peace of mind and the mind is left, death will come, you will die, then next birth, and then…

The cycle continues. And where is liberation? Where is moksha? What is Nirvana? Some peace of mind you can have after a few drinks, but eternal peace of mind can only be by merging the mind into the source, which is actually peace, which is infinite bliss and peace.

We all are That. Even when we do not know we are That, we are still That. When you are lying in bed and dreaming, you are still the body which is lying there. Though for that time being, when you are dreaming, you do not know that you are that body. You are in another body—a dream body.

So when we are dreaming in this waking state, we think, “I am this body-mind, and I am doing this, and this is my responsibility.” To wake up from this dream, we need grace, we need efforts. The effort means—ready to be That. That is all. That is all effort. One hundred percent agreeing to be dead.

So not listening to these thoughts, not going with all egoistic desires, and putting all energy back into the source.

Reflection: A Sage sees the same Divine presence everywhere and in everyone. He does not see separation, but only the one Truth shining through all forms. Simply believing this is not enough to end suffering. By sincerely looking within and asking why you feel separate from God, the false sense of separation slowly disappears. — Satsang of 27th Apr 2024

Bhagavan wrote this marital garland of letters, Aksharamanamalai. The first phrase in this, even before you start the first one, says that anyone whose sole refuge is Arunachala will become Arunachala.

So what it means is—sole refuge, not like a thousand gods and goddesses. Sole refuge—only this. It will turn you into that. I do not know who wrote that initial line, maybe Muruganar, I think, but it makes 100% sense because when you surrender to that…

Then what is left? Only that. Tat Tvam Asi.

Tat means “That,” Tvam means “you,” Asi means your beingness, your “are.” You are That.

You are That. All scriptures are saying, “You are That.” People who have realized are saying, “You are That.” We practice, and if we cannot get “You are That,” that means we are identifying with something which we are not. That something is this mind-body complex. So if you understand this game…

In spite of having a mind-body complex, we have to de-identify ourselves with that. If you want to dodge death, if you want to escape death in this birth, you have to give up identification. There is no other way.

Reflection: In Face to Face, 152, Bhagavan explains that all spiritual practice leads to one simple thing — the mind returning to the Heart. A quiet and pure mind naturally sinks within. When this happens, the search comes to an end. True peace is then quietly experienced.

Reflection: Silence is the true language of God, speaking quietly from within every heart. This deep stillness is always present beneath all thoughts and sounds. Outer pleasures alone cannot bring lasting freedom unless you first know the Divine within yourself. When that inner Truth is known, even simple sitting, singing, or dancing becomes filled with peace and bliss. — Satsang of 24th Apr 2024

Whenever Bhagavan wrote something, He used to say there was so much urge coming from some source for me to write it down. And I avoided. He says like this: “I ignored it.” But then I was forced to write it.

See what He is talking about. What is that energy? Who is avoiding? It looks like there is a duality, but understand—there is no personal effort in anything. It is just a spontaneity. When it comes, it has to come, it is coming. He is not keen to become an author or a writer.

You know what happens is—we go in search of Self, and we get lost in that search.

And only Self is left. You can say that the one who goes in search becomes that only. The one who wants to know is no more.

You keep saying, “Arunachala Shiva, Arunachala Shiva, Arunachala Shiva.” Only Shiva is left.

The one who is doing the Japa, the one who is remembering…

Merges in it. Keep doing self-inquiry. Keep paying attention to the Self, but also have devotion for it. Know that that is the reality in which I have to merge. I have to become one.

Our devotion and our practice…

Both make this journey beautiful, easy, and make us that more quickly.

Reflection: In Day by Day, 18-7-46, Bhagavan explains that one who knows the Self lives in complete truth. A jnani does not need to force goodness or honesty. When selfishness disappears, right action happens naturally. Truth then shines in every word and action.

Constant contemplation on Brahman reveals Brahman.

That is also true. In constant contemplation, we are merging our mind, our ego into it. With open eyes, with closed eyes, all our attention is on that. So we see things, but do not see things. We act, but we do not act. We do, but we do not do. Identification with all parts of the body stops.

Yet the body does act.

As ordained, as desired by that higher power. We have no say in the acts of the body because the mind, which plays its role in guiding the body, has no “I” in it.

Without that “I,” it becomes universal mind. There is no individual decision left to be taken, and you stay like a dry leaf in the wind. It just takes you, and you are in complete harmony with the source, which we call Brahman or Self.

Reflection: Bhagavan teaches us to remain inwardly still, even while work is happening through the body. When you stop thinking “I am the doer,” a deep peace begins to arise within. Actions continue naturally, moved by a greater power beyond the mind. Then you simply remain as the quiet witness, untouched and free. — Satsang of 24th Apr 2024
