This is a painting I made inspired by the dragon Kalessin, the iron-colored, eldest dragon in the Earthsea series by Ursula K. LeGuin. I enjoy her portrayal of dragons far more than any other fantasy series. They’re the oldest creatures of the Earth, knowing all that the mages seek to learn without ever having had to learn anything; they just know. They are neither purely protagonist or antagonist. They speak only the language that was spoken to weave together Earthsea itself, and they are that language.
