It was a privilege to deliver a presentation on “Palliative Care Service in Bangladesh” at Unico Hospitals PLC, a rising corporate hospital committed to providing unique and compassionate care.

This session was intentionally different from the usual discussions centered on clinical management and technical aspects. Instead, we explored palliative care through the lens of human suffering, compassion, dignity, and the responsibility of healthcare professionals to care for people beyond their diseases.

The discussion highlighted the journey of palliative care in Bangladesh—where we began, the milestones achieved over the years, the challenges that still remain, and our vision for a future where palliative care becomes an integral part of the healthcare system and accessible to all who need it.

As Bangladesh continues to advance in healthcare, it is equally important to ensure that no person is left to suffer unnecessarily and that every individual receives care that respects their dignity, values, and quality of life.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to present on experiences and lessons learned from home care services in Bangladesh on the global platform “Fellowship in Palliative Care.”

This fellowship is jointly run by the Institute of Palliative Medicine (India), St Christopher’s Hospice (UK), Bangladesh Medical University (Bangladesh), University College London (UK) and Sanjeevan (India). To date, more than 1000 participants from around 70 countries have completed this course.

It was truly an honor to highlight Bangladesh’s journey and experiences in palliative home care in such an international forum. Grateful for the opportunity to share and learn together on this global platform.
