On National Sorry Day 2026, Gayaa Dhuwi is calling on governments to move from apology to action.

Truth-telling, healing and accountability are essential to justice for Stolen Generations survivors, their families and descendants.

Almost 30 years after the Bringing Them Home Report, too much remains unfinished. ’s From Sorry to Action plan provides governments with a practical, survivor-led roadmap across healing, records, redress, education, workforce, governance and accountability.

Gayaa Dhuwi supports this Action Plan and calls on all governments to work with Stolen Generations survivors, descendants and organisations to invest in survivor-led healing, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled services, and culturally grounded social and emotional wellbeing supports.

The 2026–27 Federal Budget signals a serious risk of more of the same for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health and su***de prevention.

Gayaa Dhuwi welcomes continued investment in critical crisis supports, including 13 Yarn, but warns crisis services cannot carry the weight of a system that is not reaching people early enough.

We are calling for urgent investment in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led mental health and su***de prevention strategies, an independent National Mental Health Commission, and a dedicated social and emotional wellbeing schedule in the next National Mental Health and Su***de Prevention Agreement.

The United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination has confirmed what Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, experts and organisations have said for decades: Australia must stop criminalising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

This is not simply a youth justice issue. It is a human rights issue, a racial discrimination issue, and a social and emotional wellbeing and mental health issue.

Gayaa Dhuwi is calling on all Australian governments to urgently raise the minimum age of criminal responsibility to 14, and to invest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led alternatives that keep children connected to family, culture, community, care and Country.

Racism continues to harm the social and emotional wellbeing, safety, dignity and human rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Change must be accountable, properly resourced and led by our communities.
