I created the Foraging ABCs a few years back to help us all remember some key components to ethical wildcrafting.
🌿
Today, we decided it would be well served in the style of Beastie Boys.
I can’t say that it was well served but my, my is it entertaining 😂

Foraging ABCs:
A- Abundant & Aware-
Basically, be aware that the plant is in abundance and not critical (endangered) or at-risk.
If it is low in population, leave it there if at all possible. If you must gather, do so with the greatest of restraint. United Plant Savers keeps a wonderfully updated list of these plants on their website.

B- Browse & Bring the right tools
Be sure to gather small amounts from several stands. Don’t gather all in one spot.
Reason- you may think a plant is very abundant if you see a lot in one stand but it actually may be the only stand for miles.
Our neighbors in nature also need our plant family, and if you take all of this plant in that area, they may not be able to easily access a host plant or essential food needed.
Bring the right tools means sharp scissors or knives so as to not rip the plant. Clean cuts are much easier for plants to heal.

C- Confident ID & Care
Of course you want to know you are actually gathering what you are wanting to gather.
And Care, care enough to know how this plant interacts in our ecosystem and how you can support it as it is supporting you. You acting as an intentional part of the ecosystem (which you are). Key Ecological Herbalism.

and finally,
Dont
Ever
Forget
Gratitude &
Humble
Intentions.

Mmmmm drooppp 😂😂. Beastie boys fans will definitely get this little drop

The Elemental Teas are back for a limited time!
If you want to try them all AND a bit more, we’ve also got the Mind, Body, Spirit Sampler ready for you!
🌿
4 teas for the mind, 4 teas for deep wellness, and 4 teas for the spirit (the elemental blends)
🌿
Need a little guidance?
If you’re feeling a bit stuck and stagnant: allow water to help your flow again (Release and Flow) or Fire to help bring passion and energy back in (Light the Ember)
🌿
If feeling weepy or overly emotional- caught in allllll the feels- maybe allow fire to burn it off a bit (Light the Ember) or air to help you rise above it all (Sky Above)
🌿
If feeling caught in thought all the time, overly analytical, or captured by the clouds- maybe allow the earth to ground you (Roots Below) or water to help you return to your deepest feeling and knowing (Release and Flow)
🌿
If you are overly fired up, anxious, need to “chill”- maybe allow earth to ground the heat (Roots Below) or water to cool you off and release the pressure valve (Release and Flow)
🌿
I pay honor to the Celtic ancestors who carried much wisdom and respect for the Elements that I’ve been allowed to learn from. Though most traditions pay respect to the elements and see our deepest connections.

I carry a shovel in my trunk at all times to move animals that have been hit over further off the road.
This helps a scavenger safely consume it without being hit and the creature’s death can have meaning.
Also- the scavenger can have a meal and help our environment by doing the cleanup.

I use the plastic bags to place over the shovel head afterwards so I don’t contaminate my trunk. I clean it with a hose when I get home :)

Until areas have good wildlife corridors in place (which your yard can be one!), our neighbors in nature oftentimes have to chance the road to get to an area with food as all land has a carrying capacity. There’s only so much food and shelter on one plot of land so they must go in search of a new home and food.

What does this have to do with Ecological Herbalism?
Everything.

When practicing Ecological Herbalism, the focus is acting as an intentional part of the ecosystem. Caring for the whole as a part of the whole.

Give it a guess…
Why do I keep a shovel and plastic bags in my trunk?
🧐
If you get it correct, I’ll DM you a 10% off coupon code for our entire online store.
💚
If you’re doing this too- thank you
I am SO CURIOUS to see the answers that I get in here 😂😂

I’m so excited to introduce this limited summer release-
THE TRAVELING APOTHECARY!
✈️🌿
I take most of these teas with me when we travel and thought you may want that peace of mind and comfort capability as well.
🚗💚
It’s in our easy to carry muslin bag filled with 12 must-have travel teas.
Each teabag can be resteeped and enjoyed all day when needed.
And what’s great- you can find hot water almost anywhere so these are very easy to prepare no matter where your journey leads.
🏕️
We have Daily Tonics to assure you stay healthy when out of your ordinary routine: CARE, FOUNDATIONS, and WILDLY HEALTHY.
🌿
We’ve included teas for digestive stress since foods tend to be out of the ordinary when traveling- APERTEAF (if bloated or gassy), MOVE (for that fun travel constipation that likes to tag along), and TUMMY (nausea).
🍲🍩
Nervous system care- STRESSLESS (calm and lifted), CALM (chilllllll), and DREAMS (help sleep)
😌
Immune Support which I really like drinking on the plane or soon after landing. We put 2 of these in there because no one has time for illness on vacation.

And lastly; a little nourishing energy boost GINGER REVIVE. When you need it, it’s there ready to bring the party ;)
🌃🌄🌅🌉🌌🌿🌿🌿
Enjoy your travels my friend!

If I were to pick one plant for you to get to know, who would it be?
•••••••••••••••••••••••
Plantain (Plantago spp)
💚
I wanted to revisit this video from a couple years back in case anyone missed me singing its praises

May seem surprising for it to be my number 1, but here’s why.
🌱
You can find it almost ANYWHERE- even oftentimes traveling abroad. That makes it highly accessible- major bonus points.
🎖️
While it is abundant I do not in any way consider it invasive. It’s naturalized and has learned to live well with others; in fact some insects have adapted to it hosting them such as the Common Buckeye Butterfly.
🌿🦋
I call upon it probably more than any herb.

Here’s a list of its powers:

🟢 Can soothe stings and draw out venom and foreign objects in the skin. I’ve seen it draw out tick heads, thorns that have been there for days, splinters, irritation in bites, you name it.
🟢 Can soothe:
-a sore throat and reduce inflammation
-stomach ulcers
-bowel inflammation
-bladder pain and inflammation
🟢 Is a nutritive herb that offers easy to absorb vitamins and minerals
🟢 The root has been known to even ease tooth pain.
🌱
Seriously a soothing superstar.
Thank you Plantain 💚

Don’t fear plants- they are our most caring community.
Do respect them enough to know their story.
🌿💚
Who can be eaten, who is for someone else to eat (neighbor in nature),…?
🪲
We have the opportunity to relearn a relationship with the wild ones that is fear free.
🌱
Because that wall we’ve built between us for safety has now become a cage.
🐾☘️
Break free and get a little wild!
