As dementia overtakes all other diseases as our nation's biggest killer, how do we know if our brain is still healthy? Is it possible to measure brain function before it exhibits signs of dementia? And could that allow early intervention therapy to prevent dementia disease progression? In my clinic, I see neuro inflammation driving not necessarily dementia, but other neurological conditions such as post concussion syndrome, post viral syndrome, auto immune conditions and even chronic pain. Could dementia be a long term side effect of unresolved neuroinflammation?

Advocates warn the number of people with the condition could exceed 1 million without government intervention.

The fate of retired AFL Players. But new medical perspectives into chronic pain, arthritis & traumatic brain injury may offer a glimmer of hope. Understanding that these conditions are connected metabolically through neuro-inflammation, not treating them as isolated, individual cause & effect past events. Dermott Brereton was as tough & brave as they come, & I loved watching him play. I hope he finds the right sort of medicine.

The Hawthorn legend has often questioned himself on whether, given the toll on his body, his playing career has been worth the price.
