Scientists have studied a naturally occurring soil bacterium called Mycobacterium vaccae that may positively influence mood and stress levels through interactions with the immune system and brain. Researchers found that exposure to this microbe during activities like gardening could stimulate serotonin related pathways and reduce inflammation linked to anxiety and depression in some experimental studies.

The bacteria is commonly found in healthy soil and has attracted scientific interest because of its potential effects on emotional wellbeing. Some researchers believe contact with beneficial environmental microbes may partly explain why gardening, outdoor activity, and time spent in nature are often associated with reduced stress and improved mental health. However, experts caution that the bacterium does not literally work the same way as prescription antidepressants such as Prozac and should not be viewed as a replacement for professional mental health treatment.

Mental health specialists say the findings support growing evidence that the human brain and immune system are deeply connected to the environment around us. While research is still ongoing, scientists believe regular interaction with nature may provide measurable psychological benefits. The discovery is gaining major online attention because it highlights how something as simple as gardening may influence emotional wellbeing in surprisingly powerful ways.

Today's highlighted produce item is Italian parsley.

As I am making my usual Italian sauce for pasta tonight, here are some tips in knowing about Italian parsley.
Did you know, parsley is a highly beneficial garden herb that thrives when paired with plants that need it pest repelling properties and insect attracting flowers?!
Parsley acts as a trap crop for aphids and attracts natural predators like parasitic wasps and hover flies.
Always a great herb to have in a companion garden such as:
Tomatoes
Asparagus
Peppers
Carrots
And chives
Place this herb nearby these produce items listed above. I enjoy have a small batch of fresh herbs around the kitchen, some variety off on the deck and in the garden.
Parsley has a a nutrient profile that is potent, low calorie and packed with goodness such as Vitamin A, C and K as well as folate and iron.
This herb promotes bone strength. Proper immune function, aids in digestion along with reducing the risk of chronic diseases.
This highlighted item is versatile in many dishes to garnish for added texture and flavor.
