HYP Mamas HUB It's between the eyes, AND the thighs! Mark’s Street. Her daughter was born in the Spring of 2001 and Debi’s life was forever changed!

Although a professionally college trained dancer, Debi began her yoga practice in 1990 to handle the stress of working a demanding corporate management career in NYC. Her first teacher was Henry, an older gentleman of small stature that taught wonderful two hour classes a few blocks from her East Village apartment on St. Ten years later when Debi became pregnant transitioning to prenatal yoga was

natural step to continue her practice during such an important part of her life. She home birthed a son on Long Island in 2005. Debi has been teaching childbirth education for over 10 years and as a clinically trained hypnotist specializing in women’s health including fertility, pregnancy and postpartum, she is a Representative for OMAEP {World Organisation for Prenatal Education Associations} in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. As a member of Holistic Moms Network, New Yorkers for Vaccination Information and Choice, La Leche League and The HypnoBirthing® Nest along with Long Island Doula Association, The Coalition for Improving Maternity Services and Society of Enlightened Entrepreneurs among other groups, Debi provides a variety of resources to her students. She has been a guest speaker at The Ross School’s Center for Well Being in East Hampton and a guest on News12 Long Island Naturally with Mary Mucci. Debi has also worked with Suzanne Arms {natural birth advocate, author of Immaculate Deception and founder of Birthing the Future} Karen Brody {playwright and birth visionista of Rock Your Birth}, Dr. John Travis {founder of Wellspring and Alliance for Transforming the Lives of Children} along with the infamous Ina May Gaskin. Shortly after she completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training, Debi trained with Dorothy Guerra learning the Yoga Birthing Method and began her studies for her certification in Pre-Natal Yoga with Heather Simonson of The Yoga Womb. In the fall of 2012, she participated in an intensive workshop with NY Times Best Selling Author and Transformational Coach, Debbie Ford, during a 11 day holy land cruise to Egypt, Isreal, Greece and Italy. Her most important credential is, however, her personal experience as having learned prenatal yoga first as an expectant mother with all the fears, feelings, doubts and concerns that one faces when traveling the journey of pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood.

Through LIDA’s Community Support Fund (CSF), families facing financial hardship, serious illness, military deployment, loss of a partner, postpartum mental health challenges, and other life circumstances can access free or reduced-cost doula, lactation, and childbirth education services.

In 2024 alone, 41 families applied for support, helping connect parents with the care they needed during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Did you know your baby may help heal you while still in the womb?

Scientists have discovered that fetal cells can travel through a mother's body and may even assist in repairing damaged tissue. A beautiful reminder that the bond between mother and child is deeper and more extraordinary than we ever imagined.

What are your thoughts on this incredible discovery?

One of the most fascinating discoveries in modern science suggests that a baby may help its mother in ways researchers are still working to fully understand. Studies have found that fetal cells can cross the placenta and enter the mother's body during pregnancy, creating a remarkable biological connection between mother and child.

Scientists have observed that some of these fetal cells can travel through the bloodstream and gather in areas where tissue has been injured. In certain studies, fetal cells were found in damaged heart tissue, leading researchers to investigate whether they may play a role in supporting natural repair processes. This phenomenon is known as fetal microchimerism and has become an important area of medical research.

The findings highlight how complex and interconnected pregnancy truly is. For years, scientists viewed pregnancy mainly as a process in which the mother supports the baby. New research suggests the relationship may be more dynamic, with fetal cells potentially contributing to the mother's health under specific circumstances.

While researchers are still studying the exact effects and long-term significance of these cells, the discovery opens exciting possibilities for understanding healing, regeneration, and human biology. It also offers a powerful reminder of the extraordinary bond that exists between a mother and her developing child, extending far beyond what was once believed possible.

Denmark is officially moving away from the cry it out method after a nationwide study revealed it was still being taught in most municipalities. More than 700 psychologists signed a unified statement urging immediate discontinuation of the practice. They emphasized that prolonged crying without comfort elevates cortisol and affects how the infant brain forms emotional and stress regulation pathways. This national push reflects growing scientific awareness of early neural sensitivity.
Researchers highlight that when babies cry alone, their stress signals rise sharply. Without caregiver response, the brain begins wiring for self protection rather than trust. These early patterns influence later attachment styles emotional stability and even learning behavior. Denmark’s decision aligns with decades of neuroscience showing that infants depend on caregiver regulation to build healthy neural circuits.
Despite this, the cry it out approach continues to be recommended in parts of the U.S. where outdated models of infant independence remain common. Scientists argue that babies do not learn self soothing through isolation. Instead they learn through repeated experiences of comfort which stabilize heart rate breathing and emotional processing. This helps form long term resilience.
Denmark’s shift highlights a global conversation about infant well being. The science is clear. Responding to a baby’s distress supports healthier development than leaving them to cry alone.
