Please Join Us as We Honor the Life and Legacy of Staff Sergeant Sam Kulenek

Next Saturday at 3:00 PM, the Backyard Tavern family invites our friends, neighbors, veterans, and the entire community to join us for a very special Plaque Dedication Ceremony honoring Staff Sergeant Sam Kulenek, 2nd Recon Battalion.

Sam wasn’t just a Recon Marine—he was family to us. He was a friend, a coworker, a brother to Marty and so many others, and someone who always made Backyard Tavern feel like home.

This week we received a beautiful memorial plaque and a heartfelt letter from Sam’s parents. In their letter, they shared how much Sam loved spending time at the Backyard Tavern with his Recon brothers and friends. They thanked everyone here for welcoming him, standing beside him, and making him feel like family. They also shared that among Sam’s most treasured belongings was his Backyard Tavern security shirt—a reminder of how much this place and the people in it meant to him. Their words touched our hearts, and we are deeply honored to display the plaque they entrusted to us in Sam’s memory.
