National Mental Health Corps

National Mental Health Corps Mission: Leading the charge to solve the mental health workforce crisis. Vision: A nation where mental wellbeing is possible for all.

Health360 hosts several AmeriCorps National Service Programs that take a community-based approach to our nationโ€™s physical and mental health crisis. AmeriCorps members are deployed in communities across the nation implementing evidenced-based programs that tackle health disparities in underserved communities. Health360 is also home to Healthy Minds Alliance (HMA), which is an innovative AmeriCorps

program that increases the capacity of our partners to address mental health needs in their local community. Established in 2013, Healthy Minds Alliance has partnered with a variety of organizations from across the nation including universities, school districts, community health centers, health care systems, mental health centers, crisis call centers, and AHECs who host one or more Healthy Minds Alliance AmeriCorps members. AmeriCorps members serve full-time, 40 hours per week for 10 months, building capacity at their host site to address local mental health needs. Health360 is home to Northwestern Connecticut Area Health Education Center (AHEC), one of the four regional centers that comprise the Connecticut AHEC Network. AHEC focuses on developing a pipeline of future health care professionals who are prepared to practice in Connecticutโ€™s rural and urban underserved communities.

๐Ÿ“ This week, National Mental Health Corps' Jackie Nickolas joined AmeriCorps leaders, state commissions, and fellow planning grantees from across the Carolinas at the Summer Start-Up Training in Charlotte, NC.

The two-day event focused on building stronger service programs through community-centered design, conflict resolution, member support strategies, and effective host site partnerships.

We were especially inspired by conversations with the AmeriCorps Federal Delegation and their emphasis on sharing the stories of service and impact happening in communities every day.

As we continue our planning work in South Carolina, we're grateful for the opportunity to learn alongside such a dedicated network of service leaders committed to strengthening communities across the region.

Thank you to AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps South Carolina, and the Federal Delegation for investing in the future of national service.

June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month.

Mental health is health.

While conversations about men's physical health are common, emotional and mental well-being deserve the same attention. This month, let's encourage open conversations, share resources, and create spaces where men feel comfortable talking about their mental health.

A simple check-in can make a meaningful difference.

Innovation happens when bold ideas meet strong partnerships.

That's why we're excited to see the launch of the Center for State Service Innovation, a new initiative from Service Year focused on expanding paid service opportunities through state-level innovation, investment, and collaboration. The Center is helping states develop new approaches to addressing critical challenges in areas such as mental health, workforce development, education, disaster response, and community well-being.

At National Mental Health Corps, we believe the future of mental health workforce development depends on innovative partnerships that connect service, training, and community impact. As communities across the country face growing behavioral health needs, state-driven solutions can create new pathways for emerging professionals to serve, gain experience, and strengthen local systems of care.

We applaud efforts that bring together government, nonprofits, philanthropy, and community leaders to build sustainable solutions to our nation's most pressing challenges. The future of service is local, collaborative, and innovative.
