When someone tell you about their crave for red velvet cake or a pink color Starbucks drink, you can explain to them that the red color were actually made from crush red beetle shell (which is a healthier option though). However, "...other synthetic red dyes such as Red No. 2 and Red No. 40, which carry far greater health risks, are derived from either coal or petroleum byproducts." Which is cancerous to our health, I would fully avoid ANY red color processed food for sure!
Stay alert and stay aware, always question on the food you consume.
If the idea of eating red food dye made from bugs grosses you out, consider that if it doesn't come from a bug, it may come from something worse.
