FOCUS
In our current situation, maintaining focus on what is important has been quite tricky. We are taught to look forward, focus on the future and not on the past. But what about a world where the future seems uncertain? Where it is now hard to plan because things can change at any time?
The answer is to live in the present. We spend a lot of time worrying about tomorrow, and one of the things I love about the bush is that it forces you to be present, to live in the moment, to focus on what is in front of you AT THAT MINUTE. These lionesses went from dozing under a tree to alert and focused on the PRESENT opportunity when an unsuspecting warthog walked out from behind the sage bush. By nature, lions are opportunistic hunters. Despite the fact that their success rate for hunting can be as low as only 30%, they still take each opportunity, even if its a long shot. If they fail, they simply dust themselves off and try again.
For lions this is a matter of survival - for us living in the present and taking opportunities is a choice. And every day we have to choose to seize the day, and to make the most of each opportunity. To be present. To shift our focus towards the positive. To embrace those who are around us here and now.
"Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Matt 6:34."
Focus on today - do your best to stay present, and celebrate the small victories. Despite being mostly behind the computer this year, I have had some incredible sightings in the bush when I have managed to get out. That in itself is something to celebrate! Stay tuned to see how the hunt ended...
