🧠🧡 INSIDE YOUR BRAIN | ADHD AWARENESS MONTH
PART 2: “I KNOW WHAT TO DO. WHY CAN'T I START?”
Have you ever watched your child sit in front of their homework, knowing exactly what needs to be done… but somehow just not getting started?
Or perhaps you've experienced this yourself?
It's easy to mistake this for laziness, procrastination or a lack of motivation.
But what if the problem isn't knowing what to do — it's getting the brain to begin?
🧠 This is called task initiation, an important part of executive functioning. It involves brain networks that help us plan, organise and turn intentions into action.
For some people with ADHD, this process can be particularly challenging — even when they genuinely want to complete the task.
🔬 Where does qEEG fit in?
qEEG allows us to examine patterns of electrical brain activity, including activity recorded over the frontal regions involved in executive functioning.
These patterns can offer additional insights into how an individual's brain is functioning and may help us explore differences associated with attention, self-regulation and executive-function challenges.
🧡 The takeaway?
Struggling to start doesn't mean someone isn't trying.
Sometimes, breaking a task into one small, manageable first step can make all the difference.
💬 Have you ever experienced that frustrating feeling of knowing what to do, but struggling to get started?
