πββοΈ WHAT DOES YOUR ITB ACTUALLY DO?
Ever heard of the ITB but not sure what it actually does?
Your iliotibial band (ITB) is a strong band of connective tissue that runs from the outside of your hip down to the outside of your knee.
Its job is to help:
β
Stabilise your hip and knee
β
Keep your leg aligned while you run and walk
β
Support movement of your thigh
β
Help control the position of your knee during activity
πββοΈ For runners, the ITB plays an important role in keeping your leg stable with every stride.
But when training load, biomechanics, muscle weakness or other factors put too much stress on the area, you may experience pain on the outside of your knee, often referred to as ITB syndrome.
Your ITB doesn't work alone. Your glutes, hips and surrounding muscles all play a role in keeping your running mechanics strong.
π¬ Have you ever experienced ITB pain?
