Could you spare a few hours to make a real difference? Our East Rand Palliative Care Charity Shop in Kempton Park needs more volunteers, and we would love to welcome a few new faces to the team.

Every hour you give helps us keep the shop running, serve our community and raise vital funds that support palliative care for patients and families across the East Rand. You do not need special experience. Just a willingness to help, a friendly nature and a little time to give.

If you have time available and would like to get involved, please get in touch with Delia King at [email protected] or on 011 422 1531.

A few hours of your time can mean so much.

Since opening in the mid to late 1990s, the ERPC Bookshop has become much more than a place to find a good read. First led by the late Dawn Herholdt, it continues to thrive under the care of Jennifer English and a dedicated team of volunteers. Every donated book and every purchase helps ensure compassionate palliative care remains available to those who need it most.

Over the school holidays, the Grade 1 learners from Hurlyvale Primary School collected pre-loved items from home to donate to our charity shops as part of our Bring-A-Thing campaign.

It is wonderful to see children learning from such a young age that helping others can begin with one simple act of kindness. Every item donated helps stock our charity shops, with the funds raised from our shops supporting the palliative care we provide to patients and families in our community.

A grateful thank you to the learners, their families and Hurlyvale Primary for once again showing us what community spirit looks like.

Palliative care could help sooner than you think? Many people believe palliative care is only for the final days of life. In reality, it can provide support from the time a life-threatening illness is diagnosed.

Here are five signs it may be time to ask about palliative care:
• Pain or symptoms are becoming difficult to manage.
• Hospital visits are becoming more frequent.
• Everyday activities are becoming more challenging.
• Family members are feeling overwhelmed.
• You need emotional, practical or social support.

The earlier palliative care begins, the greater the opportunity to improve comfort and quality of life.

Many people wait far longer than they need to before asking about palliative care. For some, this is because they believe palliative care is only needed in the final days [...]

A heartfelt thank you to George's Bakery! George's Bakery HQ and George's Bakery Rynfield each generously donated 50 delicious chocolate chip cookies, giving us 100 in total to share at the The Shuffling Walking Team's walk.

Those cookies were the perfect ice breaker, helping us strike up warm conversations with the community and open the door to talk about the work we do here at East Rand Palliative Care.

Kindness like this truly makes a difference. Thank you, George's Bakery, for supporting us and the people we care for.

What a meaningful Sunday! We joined The Shuffling Walking Team, Childhood cancer foundation , Breast Health Foundation, Stepping Stone Hospice and our most amazing community of supporters for a morning dedicated to those affected by cancer.

What began as a chilly start soon turned into a beautiful, sunny morning filled with warmth, connection and compassion. Every step carried a story.

We walked in support of those currently journeying through cancer, in celebration of survivors, and in loving memory of those who have passed.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the remarkable ladies of The Shuffling Walking Team. Thank you for once again including us as a beneficiary, for the enormous amount of work you put in behind the scenes, and above all, for the generous and caring hearts you bring to everything you do.

Thank you also to every person who came out, walked alongside us and helped make the morning so special. It was a beautiful reminder of the strength found in community and the difference we can make when we stand together.
