🚨 LOOK AT THIS PICTURE! THOUSANDS FAIL GRADE 1! THIS IS THE CONSEQUENCE!🚨

EDUCATION IN CRISIS - THOUSANDS FAIL GRADE 1

ECD Owners, you see this news on TV? Long queues of children repeating Grade 1! Parents crying! Teachers overwhelmed!

DO YOU KNOW WHO CAUSED THIS? WE DID! US! ECD CENTRES!

When we force a 3 year old to sit indoors and write A-Z on worksheet!
When we keep children locked inside the whole day doing "tracing, tracing, tracing"!
When we say "No outside play, finish your work first!"
When we want to impress parents with books full of worksheets!

THIS IS THE CONSEQUENCE! THIS PICTURE IS THE CONSEQUENCE!

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FORCE A 3 YEAR OLD TO WRITE?

❌ 1. Their small hand bones are NOT ready!
A 3 year old hand is soft cartilage, not hard bone! Muscles are weak! When you force pencil, you damage the hand! Child learns WRONG grip that will take 3 years to fix in Grade 1!

❌ 2. They HATE school at age 5!
Child who was forced to write at 3 cries when they see a book! They say "School is punishment!" By Grade 1, they already have anxiety! They don't want to learn! We killed the love of learning!

❌ 3. They cannot concentrate in Grade 1!
Because they were forced to sit 2 hours indoors at age 3, their brain never developed attention span through PLAY! Play builds concentration! Worksheets kill it!

❌ 4. Their body is weak!
Children kept indoors have weak legs, weak shoulders, weak core! To write, you need STRONG shoulders and core! That strength comes from CLIMBING, SWINGING, JUMPING, CRAWLING outside! No outside play = child cannot even sit upright in Grade 1! They fall from chair! They get tired after 10 minutes!

❌ 5. They fail to read!
Reading needs LANGUAGE! Language comes from talking, singing, storytelling, role-play OUTSIDE with friends! Not from tracing B is for Ball indoors! Child who only did worksheets has no vocabulary, no story telling, no confidence to speak!

DBE SAYS: PLAY IS THE WORK OF THE CHILD! NOT WORKSHEETS!

DBE Curriculum (NCF) says:
✅ 3 year old must learn through PLAY - 80% outdoor, 20% indoor
✅ 4 year old - Sand, water, climbing, blocks, fantasy play
✅ Writing at 3 years is ABUSE, not learning!

Grade R only should start formal writing - And even then, with playdough, sand, beads FIRST, not pencil!

LOOK AT THE PICTURE AGAIN!

Thousands fail Grade 1 because:
- We forced them to write too early, they hate writing now
- We kept them indoors, their bodies are weak
- We did worksheets, not fine motor playdough, cutting, beading
- We wanted to show parents "My children can write" to get fees - But we destroyed their future!

PARENTS ALSO PRESSURE US! BUT WE MUST EDUCATE THEM!

Parent says "Why my 3 year old not writing? At other creche they write!"

You must say: "Mama, if your 3 year old writes now, he will fail Grade 1! His hand is not ready! We are building his hands with play so he will write beautifully in Grade R! Other creche that forces writing is destroying your child! Do you want a child who hates school?"

WHAT SHOULD A 3 YEAR OLD BE DOING INSTEAD?

✅ OUTSIDE: Climbing jungle gym, swinging, running, jumping, balancing beam, pushing wheelbarrows - Builds shoulder and core for writing later!

✅ FINE MOTOR PLAY (not writing!): Playdough, threading big beads, tearing paper, using pegs, painting with big brush, scooping sand, pouring water

✅ LANGUAGE: Storytelling, singing, rhymes, talking about what they see outside - Builds reading later!

✅ MATHS THROUGH PLAY: Counting stones outside, sorting leaves by colour, building blocks - Not worksheet 1+1!

IF YOU FORCE WRITING AT 3, THIS IS WHAT YOU GET IN GRADE 1:

📉 Child holds pencil with fist, not 3 fingers
📉 Child writes very slow, hand gets tired
📉 Child cries, says "I can't"
📉 Child cannot sit still - because body never got outside play
📉 Child cannot read - because no language play
📉 Child FAILS and must REPEAT GRADE 1 - Like this picture!

ECD OWNERS, WE MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY!

We wanted to look like "good school" with books full of worksheets! Now our children are failing Grade 1! This is on US!

STOP TODAY:

1. Throw away worksheets for under 4 years! YES! Throw them!
2. Make timetable: 60% OUTSIDE PLAY, 40% indoor play - NOT indoor worksheets!
3. Tell parents: "At our centre, children PLAY to learn! They will write when their hands are ready!"
4. Train your teachers: Playdough is more important than pencil at age 3!

💬 LET'S TALK TRUTH - NO SUGAR COATING!👇

1. At what age do YOU start forcing children to write? Be honest - 2? 3? 4?

2. How many hours do your children play OUTSIDE per day? 30 min? 1 hour? 2 hours?

3. Have you ever had a child who left your centre and failed Grade 1? What do you think happened?

4. Do parents pressure you to give worksheets? How do you handle it?

Comment "PLAY" if you agree that play is more important than worksheets for under 5!

Comment "GUILTY" if you have been forcing writing at 3 and you want to change from today - No shame! We learn together!

Tag an ECD owner who locks children indoors with worksheets whole day - She needs to see this picture! This picture is the FUTURE if we don't change!

LET'S SAVE GRADE 1! IT STARTS IN OUR ECD! ❤️

Om saam met jou kinders te speel, is ʼn bousteen in hul ontwikkeling en krities vir die verhouding tussen ouers en kinders.

Byna alle vaardighede wat 'n Gr R-kind moet bemeester kan speel-speel aangeleer word. Of dit nou buite-speel, rolspel, bordspeletjies, slangetjie-en-leertjies of kaarte behels.

Waarom is speel dan so belangrik?
