Life St Joseph's was honoured to be a proud partner of the 11th Durban Mental Health Symposium, held at the University of KwaZulu-Natal's Unite Building. Centred on the theme Neurodiversity and Neuroplasticity: Implications for Psychosocial Practice, the symposium highlighted the importance of advancing inclusive, evidence-based mental healthcare.
Attendees gained valuable insights from Merisa James on helping neurodivergent individuals find their voice through self-advocacy; Sduduzo Mncwabe on the neurodiversity movement with a focus on autism and ADHD; Rivendri Govender on supporting neurodiverse children through neuroplasticity-informed practice; Pierre Brouard on gender diversity, neuroplasticity and neurodiversity; Emily Meyerowitz on managing chronic pain through a biopsychosocial, neuroplasticity-informed approach; and Rose Toyer, who shared her moving lived experience of caring for her husband with Alzheimer's disease.
We were privileged to sponsor guest speaker gifts and hampers as a token of appreciation for their meaningful contributions. Thank you to the organisers, speakers and attendees for creating an inspiring platform that fosters learning, collaboration and compassionate mental healthcare. Together, we continue making a positive impact in the communities we serve.
