👐✨ Learning to peel through play!

This simple activity helps children work on:

🤏 Fine motor strength and control
👌 Pincer grasp and finger isolation
🖐️ Bilateral hand coordination
🧠 Hand-eye coordination
💪 The graded force needed for everyday tasks
By practising with clay, children can build the foundations for functional skills like peeling stickers, tape, labels, and eventually opening food packaging. 🌟

Who knew clay could help build everyday independence? 🙌

In occupational therapy, we can use play-based activities like clay to practise the skills needed for everyday tasks—like peeling a fruit or vegetable. Rolling, pinching, pulling and manipulating the clay help develop fine motor strength, hand coordination and dexterity in a fun and engaging way. 👐✨

Small skills, big steps towards independence! 💛

PATIENT SAFETY STARTS WITH EVERYDAY HABITS 💚

Small changes can make a big difference when it comes to staying safe and independent.

As Occupational Therapists, we help people identify risks in their everyday environments and develop practical strategies to support safe participation in the activities that matter most.

🔹 Keep your environment clear and clutter-free
🔹 Use appropriate support when needed
🔹 Take your time with everyday tasks
🔹 Follow recommended safety strategies
🔹 Ask for help when a task feels unsafe

Safety is part of independence.💚

Did you know that movement can help children with ADHD stay more focused and engaged?

Simple sensory and movement strategies—like using a fidget toy during seated activities or allowing your child to sit on an exercise ball while studying—may provide the movement input their bodies need to support attention and participation.

As Occupational Therapists, we look at the whole child and find practical ways to help them feel regulated, focused and ready to learn. 💛

Remember: every child is different, so what works for one child may not work for another.

💛 National ADHD Day 💛

ADHD is so much more than difficulty paying attention. It can affect how a person manages routines, time, emotions, sensory experiences, organisation and everyday tasks.

As occupational therapists, we look beyond the diagnosis and focus on the person — their strengths, their goals, and what matters in their daily life. 🌱

Small strategies, meaningful support and the right environment can make a big difference.

Today, let’s celebrate neurodiversity, challenge misconceptions and create spaces where people with ADHD can thrive — not just cope. 💛

Did You Know? OTs Can Play a Role in Kidney Failure Care 💚

When someone is living with kidney failure, complications such as swelling (lymphoedema) can affect comfort, movement and everyday activities.

Occupational therapists can help manage upper-limb swelling, particularly when a person has an AV fistula for dialysis. OT interventions may include lymphoedema management, positioning, movement and education to help protect the limb and support safe participation in daily activities.

The goal? Reduce the impact of swelling, protect function and help you stay as independent as possible. 🤲

Your kidneys may need support—but so does your ability to live your everyday life.

👐 Turn everyday tasks into therapy!

Did you know you can use clay to practice squeezing movements needed for everyday tasks?

Try squeezing and releasing the clay repeatedly to work on grip strength, hand control, and coordination—skills that can help with tasks like squeezing a bottle of lotion or toothpaste.

Small practice movements can support greater independence in everyday life. 💚

💚 Strengthen your hands with everyday practice!

Therapy clay isn’t just for exercise—it’s a practical way to build the grip and pinch strength needed for daily tasks. Practice squeezing the clay to help improve the movements used for:

🧴 Squeezing lotion bottles
🪥 Pressing toothpaste tubes
🧼 Dispensing hand soap
🧴 Using shampoo and conditioner bottles
🍅 Squeezing sauce bottles

Small exercises can make everyday tasks easier and help you become more independent, one squeeze at a time. 💪✨
