We moved into our Worcester home in July 2012. And with the home, we got a black cat called Bramble. Our house's previous owner brought her with them from Britain, when she was only a little kitten in 2006.
Bramble was the first cat I've ever had. I used to be a dog person. But slowly but surely Bramble crawled into our lives and into my heart. She was always the first one to check out what new renovations we are doing to "her" house. As if we first needed her approval.
She used to love to go on expeditions on Worcester's golf course. Someone once mentioned that they saw her catching a rabbit!
In 2013 Bramble taught our Tiger cat to catch birds and even later tolerated her on the same blanket and sharing my lap. In 2017 Bramble often used my big pregnant belly as a cushion for her head.
In 2021 Bramble moved with us to the Overstrand. She was getting old but adjusted well, spending most of her time on the back verandah enjoying the sunshine.
This year Bramble really started struggling. Even while eating well, she got very thin and frail. I took this video 2 weeks ago of Mia taking care of Bramble. Little did I know that this would be my last video of her. Exactly 2 weeks later, on 30 April, Bramble passed away.
My heart is sore, but I'll hold onto the beautiful memories. She transformed me into being a total animal lover, instead of only a dog person. Rest in peace dear old Bramble. 20 years and 4 months old, almost 14 years part of our lives, forever in my heart.
