Forests are much more than a source of timber and paper. They support biodiversity, store carbon, protect water and soil, provide livelihoods and play an important role in the wellbeing of communities.

In the Nordic countries, forestry is closely connected to a long-established forest-based bioeconomy. The goal of sustainable forestry is not simply to harvest trees, but to manage forests so they can continue to provide environmental, social and economic value for generations to come.

This also means that paper, packaging, plywood and timber production can be part of a renewable material cycle when the forests supplying the raw material are responsibly managed and harvesting remains within sustainable limits.

At NPP, we see renewable fibre as an important part of a more sustainable future, one that depends on responsible forest management and knowing the journey behind the materials we use.

The future of packaging is increasingly fiber-based.

Fiber-based packaging plays an important role in the move toward a more circular economy. Renewable paper-based materials, combined with modern barrier solutions, offer exciting opportunities to reduce dependence on conventional plastic laminates while supporting evolving environmental regulations and sustainability goals.

As industries work toward recyclability targets and more sustainable material choices, collaborations are helping accelerate the transition away from traditional mixed-material packaging structures.

24/08/2026

As consumers become more environmentally conscious, sustainability claims are appearing on more and more packaging. But not all "green" claims are created equal.

Terms such as eco-friendly, green, natural, and environmentally friendly may sound impressive, but without clear evidence, certifications, or measurable data, they can be misleading.

When evaluating packaging products, consumers should ask:
✔ Is the material recyclable in my local area?
✔ Is it made from renewable or responsibly sourced raw materials?
✔ Does the company provide recognised environmental certifications?
✔ Is the claim backed by facts, or just marketing language?
✔ What is the overall environmental impact throughout the product's lifecycle?

True sustainability is about transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement, not simply adding green colours, leaves, or environmental buzzwords to packaging.

As demand for sustainable packaging grows, informed consumers play an important role in encouraging brands to move beyond marketing claims and invest in genuine environmental solutions.
