I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant providing support and information to breastfeeding mothers and those hoping to breastfeed. I provide home visits to families in Kent and online video call support to those in the rest of the UK and worldwide.

This is such an interesting discussion Lucy Webber Feeding Support - IBCLC thanks for starting it.

I do see that hands on help can be beneficial in some circumstances especially in the first 24 hours. I have my own rules around this:
1. Consent must be clearly given
2. I use my hands over the mother’s hands when possible.
3. If I do use my hands directly. I will then ask the parent to have a go themself. Either later on in the feed, when switching sides or at the next feed.

Everybody learns differently so I tailor my support to the individual.

It’s doesn’t matter where you live, how much money you have, how many people are in your life….
If you make external circumstances responsible for your happiness, you will never feel the peace and contentment that you crave so deeply.

Wondering where to start? Here are my 3 suggestions.

1. Find things to be grateful for even on the tough days.
Bring yourself out of victim mode with daily gratitude practice. No matter how tough life is we can all find things that we can be thankful for. It might be your ability to walk to use your hands or voice. It could be a colleague at work or a picture from your child. List them all and FEEL the gratitude in your heart.

2. Find your people. Community is everything. But it won’t always come to you. Sometimes you have to go out and find it. Be proactive! Call the people that are going to lift you up but also hold you accountable, into your life. People who are honest but can also forgive. Who are thier whole messy human selves and don’t judge you for being the same.

3.Take radical self-responsibility. We all project our inside hurt into others. And others do it to us. The more self aware you can become, the better your relationships will be. And the sooner you will realise that happiness is an inside job that only you have the power to change. ❤️✨🔥
And of course, this is a reminder to self as much as a message to you all. Thank you to for the deep Sunday chats and being the mirror that I always forget that I need. 💕

Parents tell me that the cosy feeding corner at the clinic is where their baby feeds well and they feel safe and supported and deeply connected to their baby. They tell me it’s a magic chair.
Our clinic love-seat is perfect for laid back positions and so many others, couples workshops and a moment of peace and calm.
Many a client has asked me where they can get one so that feeding might go better at home.
But I remind them that they have everything they need inside of them. That when they lead with connection they will start to trust their instincts more and follow their babies lead.
I ask them where the most comfortable place in their home is and we then discuss how they can breastfeeding there.
It’s not a magic chair, but a place where parents start to listen to their own inner guide. Where they get reassurance that what they are experiencing is normal. Where they’re encouraged to watch their baby and not the clock or the baby books.

We held a fundraising reflection, talk and lunch and Boughton Church today in aid of .infant.nutrition.alliance and raised £675.
These funds will go directly to GINA help more babies breastfeed in Gaza. Breastmilk is vital and through education, support and resources GINA support health professionals and families in the ground.
Thank you to everyone who helped organise the event and to those who came along and donated.

THIS COURSE HAS BEEN 14 YEARS IN THE MAKING!!
And that’s because I had my own breast reduction surgery in 2011. It was this experience and then breastfeeding my daughter afterwards that led me to become an IBCLC and have a deep interest in the brain/body connection when it comes to lactation.
