Pain is not a single sensation; it arrives in multiple forms. In its rawest state, physical pain is something we have a variety of ways to manage. Sometimes it’s constant, and we find a way through it to move on. However, then there is the other kind: the pain formed entirely from what we have survived. We all carry it. The weight is universal, yet the ways we choose to express it are entirely our own. Some keep it quiet, but eventually, it finds a way to express itself. There is a profound beauty hidden inside horrible experiences: the growth pain itself forces upon us. I’ve carried my past to the point where I can only thank the past that brought me here, because it gave me the understanding and care to sit across from someone else, hold that space, and allow them to finally express theirs.
