πŸ“ Gauteng, your referral network is bigger than you think.

Vula Medical now connects health professionals across more than 100 departments and facilities in Gauteng β€” from Steve Biko Academic Hospital, Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital , Charlotte Maxeke, Helen Joseph, Dr George Mukhari, Tembisa, Kalafong, Edenvale and Rahima Moosa, to Mamelodi, Sebokeng, Thelle Mogoerane, Bertha Gxowa, Tambo Memorial, Far East Rand and Pretoria West β€” plus private hospitals, Unjani Clinics, Wits RHI, and many more. If you refer patients in Gauteng, chances are the colleagues you need are already on Vula.

"Vula is both the 'glue' that holds the health system together, and the 'oil' that helps it to work efficiently." β€” a clinician on the network

Why clinicians are joining:
βœ… Chat, refer and collaborate with specialists in minutes, not days
βœ… Clear, accountable communication between hospitals and departments
βœ… POPIA-compliant by design β€” we handle the compliance, you focus on patients
βœ… Free for health professionals

Feedback like this is why we do what we do. πŸ’™

Dr Mthethwa Mondli ProphetAnswer a general surgeon at Ngwelezana Hospital, shared this about using Vula:

"It has genuinely transformed and simplified the referral process. Communication between hospitals and departments has become significantly more efficient, organised, and accountable because of the platform. It has become an indispensable tool in our daily workflow."

To every clinician using Vula every day β€” thank you. You're the reason this platform exists, and your trust is what pushes us to keep improving it. Stories like Dr Mthethwa's remind our whole team why faster, clearer referrals matter: better communication means better care for patients.

The clinical voices speak for themselves. 🩺

Health Systems Trust - HST captured what Vula Medical means to those who use it every day:

πŸ—£οΈ "I've been using Vula for seven years. It's a game-changer. The value I don't think I can actually describe in words."

πŸ—£οΈ "Vula helps us decide which patients need to come acutely, which can go to outpatients, and which don't need to come to our department at all. That has saved massive resources in hospital transport costs."

πŸ—£οΈ "It's logged. I can see where the fault lies if there is a problem and can intervene. That accountability has meant we can manage patients far better."

πŸ—£οΈ "Vula has become synonymous with the word referral. We used to say, 'Did you send a Vula for this patient?' Very few companies can say they've become a verb."

These aren't just quotes. They're proof of impact.

Vula Medical has been recognised as a Good Practice by the Health Systems Trust.

The Health Systems Trust - HST β€” South Africa's leading independent health systems non-profit β€” published Vula in its Good Practices Repository as a model for strengthening healthcare communication in low-resource settings.

This recognition matters. HST's repository is the benchmark used by policymakers, researchers, and implementers across South Africa and the continent to identify what works in health systems reform. To be listed is to be peer-reviewed by the people shaping the future of healthcare delivery.

As South Africa going forward, the need for evidence-based, scalable tools that deliver equitable care has never been greater. HST's recognition is more than a milestone β€” it's confirmation that digital referrals are no longer experimental. They are health system infrastructure.

πŸ™ Huge thanks to the Health Systems Trust for this recognition, and to every clinician who has made Vula what it is today.

Two Innovators & One Mission

At Vula Medical, we believe that solving South Africa's healthcare challenges requires more than just one solutionβ€”it requires a community of innovators working together.

That's why we are proud to partner with companies like Zebra Medical, who share our mission to bridge structural gaps in public healthcare.

Here is what Zebra Medical had to say about working with us:
"What the Vula Medical platform has contributed to the public healthcare space is unique and demonstrates the exact smarts that we need to solve for some of the structural gaps in our healthcare system.

And that's where I feel the Butterfly handheld ultrasound probe plays the same unique role. In a world where our healthcare system is operating under increasing pressure from workforce shortages, high patient volumes and geographic inequity, POCUS is emerging as one of the most efficient high-impact clinical tools available.

Just like the Vula mobile platform, it can facilitate those focus-driven questions to inform triage, procedural safety, escalation and referral.
Zebra Medical is committed to working with Vula Medical to ensure that as many public healthcare professionals as possible have access to the Butterfly probe and POCUS skills, and to combine forces to bring better care to all South Africans."

Thank you, Zebra Medical, for your trust and partnership. Read more:

One of our team members spent the past two days at Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Hospital. Here's the Ophthalmology department.

They've been using Vula since 2015. Last year alone, over 3,900 patient referrals went through Vula to this one department.

It's a busy place. We're glad we can help in their busy day.
