Mobility is important - but without stability, joints become more vulnerable to injury. Biokinetics helps strengthen the muscles that support your joints, improving movement control and reducing unnecessary strain during daily activities and exercise.

When joints are stable, movement becomes more efficient, comfortable and sustainable over time. Strong support around the joints can also help reduce the likelihood of recurring pain or injury.

Excited to share our latest published article exploring the prevalence and severity of hallux valgus in older adults from South Africa and Belgium. 🦶🏼🌍

A heartfelt thank you to all the collaborators and participants who made this research possible. It is a privilege to contribute to a better understanding of foot health in ageing populations and to collaborate across continents in addressing important health challenges.

Every publication represents a team effort, and I am grateful to have been part of this journey.

Introduction Hallux valgus (HV) is a common foot deformity in older adults, frequently associated with pain and functional impairment. Global prevalence is estimated at 19%, although it varies by co...

Next in our Movement Myth Busters series...

Movement Myth: 'If you exercise regularly, you don’t need a biokineticist.'

❌ Fiction
Being active doesn’t always mean moving correctly.

✅ Fact
Many active individuals have underlying imbalances, poor movement patterns or inefficiencies that increase injury risk over time. Biokinetics focuses on improving movement quality, not just quantity.

Better movement leads to better performance and fewer setbacks.

Absolutely! Active rehabilitation when indicated is the golden standard!

It's BAAACK! Our series, Movement Myth Busters!

The first movement myth this week: 'Rest is always best when you’re injured.'

❌ Fiction
While rest may be necessary initially, prolonged inactivity can lead to stiffness, muscle loss and delayed recovery.

✅ Fact
Guided, progressive movement helps restore strength, mobility and function. Biokineticists carefully reintroduce movement at the right time to support healing and reduce re-injury risk.

Movement - when prescribed correctly, is part of recovery.

Excited to share our latest published article exploring how older adults respond immediately to different footwear conditions—specifically barefoot, minimalist footwear, and conventional footwear—and how those responses vary across continents. 🌍👟

Falls in aging populations are a major global health concern, and functional mobility is a vital indicator of overall health. Our findings highlight that intercontinental differences should be kept in mind when assessing the functional mobility of healthy older adults, and shed light on how we can enhance balance and stability, potentially aiding functional mobility.

🦽 Movement After Spinal Injury Matters
Living with a spinal cord injury brings unique challenges - from reduced mobility to managing muscle spasticity and preventing secondary complications. But movement is still possible, and it’s one of the most powerful tools for maintaining health and independence.

Biokineticists specialise in creating safe, adapted exercise programmes for people with paraplegia and other spinal cord injuries. These programmes focus on:
✨ Building and maintaining muscle strength
✨ Improving circulation and joint health
✨ Managing spasticity and pain
✨ Enhancing functional ability for everyday independence

Every session is carefully designed to meet each individual’s needs, ensuring safety while maximising physical potential. Beyond the body, exercise also supports mental well-being and confidence - helping patients take back control of their lives.

The correct movements and exercises can make all the difference!

Welcome to 'Move to Improve' week!

Today we're focussing on: Joint Health. Your joints are made to move - but only the right kind of movement improves long-term health. Biokineticists use medically guided exercise to reduce stiffness, increase range of motion and delay degenerative joint conditions like osteoarthritis. The right movement protects your joints for life.
