I noticed something today walking in the cold.
Without even thinking about it, my body curled in on itself.
My shoulders rounded forward.
My head dropped.
My chest closed.
My arms came closer to my body.
I was trying to keep warm. Then I realized...
This is often the exact same position we take when we're stressed. When life feels overwhelming, our bodies instinctively become protective.
We hunch.
We brace.
We tighten our stomachs.
We hold our breath.
We make ourselves smaller.
Not because we're weak. Because our nervous system is trying to protect us.
The problem is that many of us stay in this protective position long after the stress has passed. Hours. Days. Months. Even years. Over time that protective posture can become:
Neck tension
Tight shoulders
Back pain
Shallow breathing
Feeling anxious, tired, or stuck
Your posture is often telling the story of your nervous system. This is why structured movement matters.
When we gently open the chest, breathe deeper, move freely and build strength, we're not just changing our posture….. We're teaching the nervous system that it doesn't need to stay on guard. That it's safe. That the threat has passed.
Sometimes the body doesn't need fixing. It needs reminding.
Have you noticed what happens to your posture when you're stressed?
Tell me below: do you curl inward, clench your jaw, raise your shoulders, or hold your breath?
