Love in a Bowl

Love in a Bowl Love In A Bowl grows organic veggies on behalf of the young and elderly of our local shack community of 15,000 people who live far below the poverty line.

We provide for 6000 of the most vulnerable in the COMMUNITY. Who We Are
We are the Community of Hout Bay. We are individuals, NGOs, restaurants, yard services, Educares, Mamas, children, parents, growers, health workers, landowners, faith centres, brokers, fishers, hikers, business owners. What holds us in common is our shared commitment to ensure the provision of healthy, locally grown food to t

he most vulnerable children and elderly of our Community. The Magic of Love
We believe in the Magic of Love and we ask the hard question: Who is My Neighbour? We are Tatas and Tannies and Gogos and Grandchildren who eat from the same Table. And if one of us goes hungry we all go hungry. We are trying to learn what it means to live as One. And we grow lots and lots of organic veggies in massive crop circles in mini farms spread throughout our community. In 2015 Love in a Bowl was launched by Hout Bay couple, Michelle and Gordon. They started with one vegetable circle and one gardener, providing vegetable soup to one community programme each week. Those first seedlings have now grown to where we are today with 48 vegetable circles, 37 staff and interns providing beautiful organic veggies to 24 food kitchens in Hout Bay each week. In September this year we transformed into a dynamic new programme, merging into Hout Bay’s COURAGE Initiative which was
originally founded to address the extreme hunger experienced in our community during the height of COVID lockdown. We are hoping to expand to 96 veggie circles this coming year, offering employment and training to 55 Hout Bay residents, while providing solid nutrition in the form of our locally grown organic veggies to the 6,000 most vulnerable children and elderly of our community. Thank you for joining us in this beautiful venture for the future of our beloved little town.

Our farm is more than a place where vegetables grow.

It's where children learn, volunteers connect, organic waste becomes healthy soil, and fresh produce begins its journey to families across Hout Bay.

Every bed, every seed and every harvest is part of something much bigger—a community working together to create a more sustainable and food-secure future.

Thank you for helping us keep growing.

Friday means Community Cook Up 🍲

Every week, fresh produce from our farm is transformed into nutritious meals for children and families across Hout Bay.

A very special thank you to Clay Café Hout Bay, whose generous sponsorship helps make our Friday Cook Ups possible, as well as to the volunteers, supporters and staff who bring it all together each week.

Freshly harvested. Carefully prepared. Ready to nourish.

Before our produce reaches a market stall, retail partner or family table, every bunch is hand-selected and packed with care by our amazing team.

It's these small moments behind the scenes that ensure the freshest, highest-quality produce leaves our farm every week.

Learning, playing and growing together ♟️

We loved welcoming the children from JSC Academy to spend some time with us at Love in a Bowl — enjoying the farm, playing a few games of chess and simply having fun together.

Here’s to more moments of learning, connection and plenty of smiles along the way!

A Sunday of good things — in more ways than one 🌱

We loved being part of the Good Things Market this past Sunday, sharing fresh, locally grown Love in a Bowl produce with the community. And the good news? You’ll now find us there on the last Sunday of every month 🥕🥬

We also celebrated a very exciting farm first — our first-ever Love in a Bowl artichoke harvest! 👏👏 Another little milestone for our growing farm.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello, shop and support us. Every purchase helps us continue growing goodness and nourishing our Hout Bay community.

See you at the next one! 💚

It all starts in the field 🌱

Every bunch of veggies we harvest is grown with care on the farm before making its way into our community feeding programmes, retail partners and homes across Cape Town.

Behind every harvest is a team of dedicated hands working hard to grow fresh, nutritious food that nourishes both people and community.

Thank you to our incredible farm team for everything you do.

💚 Want to support local? Shop our fresh produce via the link in our bio.

A warm meal is never just a meal.

It's a moment of care. A chance to connect. A reminder that somebody sees you, values you and wants you to thrive.

Every day, our team works to ensure that children, families, tatas and gogos in our community have access to nourishing food served with dignity and kindness.

Thank you to everyone who supports this work — whether you volunteer, donate, shop with us or simply help spread the word.

💚 Together, we can feed more people, grow more food and strengthen our community.

Afro Electric Collective × OurMinds.Earth 🌿✨

Come spend a sun drenched Saturday with us on the lush lawns of Glenhof Manor on 29 August.
We’re gathering for a beautiful day of soulful sound, intuitive art-making, delicious nourishment, and deep care for the earth as we celebrate The Living Field of Return’s spekboom and succulent sanctuary.

We’re greeting the morning with a Coffee Rave from 07:00 to 09:00
think gentle movement, warm artisanal brews, and uplifting, melodic grooves to wake up your body and spirit.

Entry is completely free, with a donation jar for anyone called to support the cause.

The garden rests from 09:00 to 14:00 while we prepare for the afternoon magic.

From 14:00 to 22:00, the energy unfolds into a vibrant flow of live sets, deep bass, hypnotic techno, and drum & bass.

Wander over to the communal canvas to paint whatever feels good, let the little ones play freely in their own sweet dancing nook, and gather around the screen at 17:10 to catch the rugby together.

Nourish yourself throughout the day with wholesome food trucks, refreshing drinks, and beautiful organic produce packs generously brought to us by the wonderful hearts at Love in a Bowl.

Every ticket directly honours our performing artists and goes straight into the soil, funding our spekboom propagation circle to heal and restore our local landscape.

Find your passes on Quicket: R150 for Early Birds, R200 General, R50 for little ones under 16, and R400 for a Family Pass (two adults, two kids).

You can also plant a seed by adding a spekboom donation from R10 upwards at checkout.

Morning circle opens at 07:00, and the main afternoon journey begins at 14:00.

Bring your open heart, your dancing feet, and your loved ones 🌸💛

Our recent Kids' Market was filled with creativity, confidence and plenty of entrepreneurial spirit as young traders set up their stalls to sell everything from handmade crafts and delicious treats to pre-loved treasures.

It was inspiring to watch children practise their business skills and experience the excitement of earning from something they had created themselves. Beyond the stalls, families enjoyed spending time on the farm, supporting local vendors and connecting with the Love in a Bowl community.

A huge thank you to every young entrepreneur, parent and visitor who helped make the day such a success. We can't wait to welcome everyone back for the next one!
