Fransisca Swart Physiotherapy The body often stores and accumulates patterns of physical tension from injury, environmental stressors, disease and disorders compromising optimal wellbeing.

This is an integrative Craniosacral & Physiotherapy practice in Centurion Pretoria, focussing on releasing tension, pain and dysfunction from Newborns to The Elderly Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is the hands-on, personalized and comprehensive approach to pain free movement, optimum function, increased flexibility and rehabilitation of the human body. Physiotherapists have an in-depth understanding of the human body and can assess restrictions, help to reduce pain and also release tension or stress patterns both locally and throughout the body. Physiotherapy can benefit people of all ages, from newborns to the elderly, with a focus on maximizing your quality of life, helping the body to bring balance between body systems and increase vitality. Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician John. E. Upledger . At the time he was working as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics at College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan state University. Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a non-massage, gentle, hands on therapy that releases tensions and restrictions deep within the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve overall health and vitality. Massage Therapy

After more than 20 years of physiotherapy experience the benefits of massage are undeniable. I have found that a combination of traditional massage therapy, and the use of dōTERRA essential oils, (CPTG Certified Pure Tested Grade ) can greatly benefit my clients. This holistic hands-on approach has been proved to affect the body on multiple levels, giving you the best of both worlds. Aroma Touch is another one of these regimes, developed by dōTERRA , and also incorporates techniques from reflexology . Massage is provided in specific pressure points on the back, shoulders, neck, head, hands, and feet. These pressure points are thought to aid in relaxation and further accelerate the ability to bring back a sense of balance in our autonomic nervous system. This is a clever way to maintain wellness and fight inflammation, minimizing the effects of stress and environmental toxins on our overall health. Lymphatic Balancing

Lymphatic Balancing , as taught worldwide by the D’Ambrogio Institute, expands on the traditional approach to lymphedema, by designing special manual lymphatic drainage techniques pioneerd by Emil Vodder, PhD (Vodder Method), Bruno Chikly MD, DO (Lymph Drainage Therapy), and Albert Leduc PT, PhD (Leduc method) with the addition of traditional osteopathic lymphatic pumping techniques ,making it very relevant to orthopedic injuries. Lymphatic Balancing techniques help to remove the accumulated waste and relieve congestion of lymph fluid in and around tissues. Furthermore, the lymphatic system assist the immune system by removing excess toxins, fluid, debris, and damaged cells from injured tissue and consequently helps with tissue healing, pain relieve and increased range of movement. Treating Babies:

This approach to baby care, as taught internationally by the Kindred Academy, makes use of gentle movements, to assess and optimize how your newborn’s joints and muscles are moving. During the last few weeks of pregnancy your baby might run out of space to comfortably move around. Your little one often becomes stuck into a position that prevents it from moving the neck, back and limbs into more comfortable positions, causing stress to your baby. During the birth process a lot of strain is put on the baby’s tiny body and this can add further discomfort to your baby. Often this tightness is not noticed because your baby is not moving around as much. These movement restrictions, as well as the birth process itself, can cause a lot of stress for your baby and will subsequently affect you as a mom also. It is important to help your baby settle as stress-free as possible into its new world and allow time for bonding with your precious baby. This therapy is effective because it influences a lot of what makes your baby feel comfortable, happy and content. Releasing tension in your baby’s body will be beneficial for many conditions including sleeping patterns, colic, reflux, constipation and feeding issues.

“When I think about the body and mind connection, SomatoEmotional Release
(SER) immediately comes to mind. SER is an advanced therapeutic process
that can sometimes happen in a CranioSacral Therapy (CST) session. It is
best described as the expression of emotion that may have been retained,
suppressed, and isolated in the tissues for some time. As an example, if you are
involved in a fall or accident and suffer a physical injury, it may be accompanied
with shock or emotional trauma that gets absorbed into the tissues of the body.”

How Do Emotions Affect Our Tissues?

In her latest article, Vivien Henderson, LMT, CST-D, explores the powerful mind-body connection through SomatoEmotional Release (SER) in CranioSacral Therapy (CST).

Traumatic experiences and emotions such as fear, anger, or shock can become stored in the body's tissues, contributing to pain and dysfunction. Through gentle CST techniques, these emotional patterns can be identified and released, supporting deep healing and balance.

One of the greatest gifts we can offer our children is a healthy start in life. 💙

From the very first breath, a baby’s body is adapting to gravity, touch, light, sound, and the new rhythms of the world. Even the most beautiful birth experience can place subtle stresses on a newborn’s delicate system — especially on the craniosacral system, which surrounds and protects the brain and spinal cord.

Upledger CranioSacral Therapy (CST) uses a gentle, light-touch approach to support the healthy function of this system. For babies, CST may help:

✨ Ease tension from birth
✨ Support feeding and latching challenges
✨ Promote more restful sleep
✨ Calm fussiness and irritability
✨ Encourage healthy nervous system development

Because a baby’s body is still growing and adapting, it often responds quickly to gentle, precise support. Many parents report their babies appear more relaxed, comfortable, and settled following sessions.

At Upledger, we’ve been teaching this work for over 40 years — helping healthcare professionals around the world support families with compassionate, evidence-informed care.

If you’re a parent looking for support, or a healthcare provider wanting to expand your pediatric skills, learn more about Upledger CranioSacral Therapy at upledger.com.

What are the benefits of early CranioSacral Therapy intervention?

Have a look at this video from Kindred Academy to help explain what CST for babies would look like.

It is well known that in certain instances the birth process can generate mild to severe central nervous system abnormalities.

CranioSacral Therapy carried out within the first few days of life, can potentially reduce a wide spectrum of health challenges, many of
which might not otherwise become apparent until the child is in school. It can even address problems with head shape and skull-bone override, naturally.

The compressive forces experienced by the infant during birth can result in pressure o n the nervous system, particularly the cranial nerves.
For some infants, this leads to difficulty with sucking/swallowing, jaw mobility, and digestion. In addition, the baby may also have
areas of discomfort, muscular tension, or bone misalignment.

• Improved breastfeeding.
• Reduced infantile colic.
• Improved movement milestones.
• Resolution of Torticollis.
• Improved digestion
reduction in reflux.
• Improved "Tongue Tie"
• Improved upper airway issues.

Craniosacral therapy for babies

16/01/2026

Migraine is a common health condition, affecting around 1 in every 5 women and around 1 in every 15 men.

'After six craniosacral therapy treatments, scorings of the HIT-6 Questionnaire had decreased significantly for both groups, at points immediately after craniosacral therapy and one month after - our results indicate that craniosacral therapy could be considered as a potential therapy for migraine sufferers with the aim of improving quality of life.'
