A debate over whether young South Africans should prioritise entrepreneurship or first-time employment is at the centre of the country’s fight against youth unemployment. CNBC Africa’s weekly Youth Month poll found 39% of respondents favour entrepreneurship and start-ups, while 30% support entry-level jobs as the most effective solution.
Experts Ravi Naidoo and both argued that access to first jobs is critical, citing structural barriers, skills mismatches, and the need for stronger entry points into the economy.
