Your 40s are not the decade to guess your way through your health. They’re the decade to start measuring it.

Being proactive matters more than ever, and there are 3 health markers every woman should be paying attention to:

1. Metabolic Health
Know your numbers. Blood pressure, cholesterol, and HbA1c can tell you a lot about what’s happening beneath the surface long before symptoms appear.

2. Hormonal & Nutritional Health
Hormone changes can affect everything from your energy and sleep to your mood and weight. Depending on your assessment, your doctor may recommend tests such as a hormone profile, iron studies, Vitamin D levels, and other blood work.

3. Bone & Muscle Health
One of the biggest predictors of healthy ageing isn’t the number on the scale, it’s your muscle mass, strength, mobility, and bone health.

And while we’re talking prevention, don’t skip your annual well-woman visit. It remains one of the most important appointments on your calendar where you can also get your Pap smear and mammogram done.

These screenings save lives.

The goal isn’t to wait until something goes wrong. The goal is to build a body that remains strong, capable, and healthy for decades to come.

Yesterday was World Blood Donor Day, and if you know me, you know I never miss an opportunity to donate blood. I know firsthand just how important blood donations are and the difference they can make when someone needs them most.

But I recently got matching tattoos with my daughter, which means I won’t be able to donate for the next three months.

It actually got me thinking: we spend a lot of time talking about when to donate blood, but not enough time talking about when not to.

Here are a few instances where you’ll need to wait before rolling up your sleeve:

Pregnancy – Do not donate while pregnant or for 3 months after giving birth.

Major surgery – Wait at least 3 months before donating.

Antibiotics – If you’re actively taking antibiotics, you’ll need to wait until your course of treatment is complete.

Blood transfusion – Wait 3 months after receiving blood or blood products.

New tattoo – You’ll need to wait 3 months after getting tattooed before donating blood.

While I sit this one out, I hope those who are eligible will consider making a donation. One unit of blood can help save multiple lives, and there’s always someone, somewhere, depending on the kindness of a stranger.

If you’re able to donate, please do. ❤️

KZN Chapter of “Decoding Menopause” book launch was a resounding success!

The launch was intentionally and intimately set in the leafy Hilton Hidden gem at the Gates. The event attracted a diverse crowd, including healthcare professionals, women experiencing menopause, and community members eager to learn and prepare for their journey into menopause.

Our hosts warmly welcomed us and set the tone with enthusiasm creating a supportive and lively atmosphere.

The woman behind the words, Dr. Somlota shared her personal journey and the motivation behind writing the book, resonating deeply with the audience.

Decoding Menopause while reflecting on the Author’s insights and tapping into pertinent moments in the book was an inspirational, intimate and insightful session.

The audience engaged in a dynamic Q&A session, asking thoughtful questions that showcased their interest, curiosity and personal experiences.

All in all everyone left feeling empowered and informed about their hormonal health, with practical strategies to navigate menopause. The event saw strong book sales, which showed people are hungry to know and learn from Dr. Somlota’s expertise.

We continue to break the silence and stigma often associated Menopause. Congratulations to for being faithful to her mandate and sharing her wisdom and science with us in a relatable and palatable way to the everyday woman.

It’s a Worldclass read!

Just two eras of womanhood keeping each other balanced.🤭

The world gives us enough reasons to compete. Sisterhood gives us reasons not to.

Different generations, different journeys, but the same understanding only women seem to have.

Just a little reminder for anyone who needs it: having a baby after an ectopic pregnancy is absolutely possible.

The road here wasn’t linear, but some stories are worth every twist and turn.

if there is one essential mineral that deserves a permanent spot in your ritual, it is magnesium.

Often referred to as the body’s ultimate multitasker, magnesium plays a crucial role in regulating sleep quality, easing muscle tension, supporting hormonal balance, and managing stress. But not all magnesium is created equal, different forms serve entirely different functions.

Here is a refined breakdown of how to choose the right form for your wellness goals

Empowered girls empower the world. 🤍

Had the absolute privilege of visiting the incredible students at Tswelopele High School in Tembisa for the Comfitex x Dis-Chem initiative. Period poverty is a harsh reality that keeps so many bright young minds out of the classroom, and being able to step in and provide essential sanitary pads was incredibly moving.

A truly meaningful part of the day was speaking to both the girls and the boys. Period poverty isn’t just a female issue, it’s a human one. By involving the boys, we open up a vital conversation because these young men have mothers, sisters, friends, and future wives, and building a supportive community starts with understanding.

Seeing the smiles and feeling the energy in that room reminded us exactly why these initiatives matter. It’s about restoring dignity, ensuring education goes uninterrupted, and giving these young women one less thing to worry about

Today, on the International Day of Action for Women’s Health, we acknowledge how far we’ve come and how hard that progress has been fought for.

For years, women’s health was spoken about in whispers, underfunded, misunderstood, and often dismissed. But through relentless advocacy, lived experience, and collective organising, the conversation has shifted. What was once ignored is now being researched, funded, and prioritised. From improved access to reproductive healthcare, to growing awareness around endometriosis, menopause, mental health, and maternal care, the landscape is slowly changing in ways that reflect women’s real needs, not just assumptions about them.

Policies are being reviewed, stigma is being challenged, and medical research is finally beginning to include women at the centre rather than the margins. It doesn’t mean the work is done, but it does mean something important: we are being heard.

And after decades of advocating, that hearing is finally starting to sound like action.

There is something sacred about the first breath a baby takes..

A newborn’s grand entrance is more than tiny fingers and fragile cries, it’s a moment of fresh new promise. Carrying destiny. Carrying a fresh breath of blessings into a room that will never again be the same.

Everything shifts, the air feels softer, time slows down. Hearts crack open in ways words can never fully explain (ask the daddies). In that single breath, that loud cry, generations are connected. Futures are rewritten.

It’s a reminder that God still trusts humanity enough to send life into it.That despite pain, loss, chaos, and uncertainty, creation continues. Hope continues. Love continues.

A fresh breath of blessings.
A reminder that miracles do not always arrive openly but in the secret places. Sometimes they arrive wrapped in blankets, searching eyes, breathing life into everyone around them.

And perhaps that is why birth feels so sacred, because for one brief moment, earth and heaven feel impossibly close together.
