Today on Father's Day, the Reach for Recovery community is privileged to share the personal insights and cancer journey of the Govender family, who lost beloved wife and mother, Lala, to breast cancer on 26th May 2020. Her widower, Pastor Ronnie Govender, shares these special and inspirational words with us all:
"I write this to encourage all men who have a partner, wife, sister or mother fighting this disease. My wife never lost hope and always turned the most challenging of days around with her jovial spirit. I often found myself gathering strength from her ability to always see things through humour. As my dear wife used to say: Hold onto hope, hope of better days, hope of recovery, hope that many have."
Our community honours all men who have experienced the breast cancer battle personally, and for their strength and commitment to their families.
Lala Govender is remembered further in these special words from her daughters and son:
“Mum's 16-year journey with cancer began in 2004 when she was first diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. Once she was well enough, she started volunteering for CANSA, Reach for Recovery and Reach for a Dream. During that time cancer returned twice more but that never deterred her faith in God, and passion for helping others. In this journey she continued being the best wife, mother and grandmother, making every day special with the littlest of gestures. Mum truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; trips to the beach, parks and family gatherings were priceless.
She devoted herself to the fight against cancer and raising awareness amongst women in our community. She was a beacon of hope to many cancer patients and survivors. Her infectious and hopeful spirit healed women and men from all walks of life.”

Always remembered. ###
