Member Spotlight: Dave Adams
When you meet Dave, one of the first things you notice is his determination. What many may not realise is that his fitness journey spans nearly three decades and has been shaped by perseverance, personal growth, and overcoming extraordinary challenges.
Dave's fitness journey began back in 1998. Like many people starting out, he admits that he had very little understanding of what was actually required to create meaningful change.
"I had no idea what to do to see transformation. I was eating what I thought was healthy and training without any clue of what intensity was needed, or how important a structured program and proper exercise form really were."
Over the years, Dave continued learning, growing, and refining his approach to health and fitness. However, life had a major challenge in store for him.
"Stage 4 cancer got in the way briefly."
While those few words may sound simple, they represent one of the biggest battles a person can face.
Through it all, Dave demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination, refusing to allow his circumstances to define him.
When asked what motivates him today, Dave reflects on the people and experiences that helped him realize his own potential.
"I'm motivated by what I can reflect on that I was shown, which made me realize my potential if I made the effort to apply myself to it."
His journey eventually led him to Pilates and Yoga with Sandre & Daleen, practices that offered him something very different from traditional fitness training.
"Pilates and yoga have made me understand that the fight against yourself is part of the problem. When we force ourselves, we exhaust ourselves."
Through Yoga in particular, Dave discovered the importance of breathing, balance, and self-awareness.
"Yoga helped me understand my own limitations and that everyone else's limitations are unique too. They don't need approval from anyone." The benefits have extended far beyond physical strength and flexibility. Dave describes one of the greatest gifts of Yoga as the ability to quiet the mind and fully experience the present moment.
"Emotionally, we all need time to think of nothing. To free the mind. Empty it. Yoga does that. You cannot have your mind elsewhere. It's in the momentânothing past, nothing future. For a change, it pulls us into the present."
Dave's story is a powerful reminder that fitness is about far more than appearances. It's about resilience, self-discovery, healing, growth, and learning to appreciate what our bodies and minds are capable of.
We are incredibly grateful to have Dave as part of our PiYo family. His journey inspires us all to keep showing up, keep learning, and keep moving forwardâone breath, one class, and one day at a time.
Thank you, Dave, for sharing your story with us. We look forward to being part of your journey for many
years to come.
