My baby hates tummy time… and still isn’t rolling πŸ‘£

If this sounds like you β€” you’re not alone 🀍

Rolling can feel like it should just happen…
but behind the scenes, your baby is building strength, coordination, and confidence in their own time.

Sometimes they just need a little more support,
a little more opportunity to move, and a little less pressure to β€œget there” quickly πŸ‘£

These simple activities are here to gently guide that process β€” not force it 🀍

Because development isn’t rushed… it’s built, one small movement at a time.

Rolling is one of those milestones that can cause so much comparison and worry, but it’s important to remember that rolling doesn’t happen in isolation.

Before a baby rolls, their body is busy building the foundation for movement through:

🌿 head control
🌿 tummy time strength
🌿 midline connection
🌿 reflex integration

Every baby develops differently, and some simply take a little more time… while others may benefit from gentle support and opportunities to strengthen these foundations πŸ‘£

Rolling is more than just getting from one side to another β€” it’s a sign that strength, coordination, and body awareness are beginning to work together 🀍

A little support early goes a long way.

Save this for later and follow along as we continue exploring rolling this week πŸ‘£

Bringing hands to feet isn't just play - it's the beginning of coordination, strength and body awareness.

Activities do not need to be complicated at all!
Just simple, consistent and intentional playπŸ‘£

The next milestone that we will be having a look at is the one where baby has discovered their feet!

This is an "underdog" milestone, it is super cute but also holds so many fundamental benefits that are crucial for further development.

This milestone is secretly developing the necessary hip and core strength needed for rolling, sitting and crawling!

How cool is that! That such a simple movement can hold so much potential!

Head control is one of the very first foundations for movement.

Before a baby can roll, sit or crawl, they need to learn how to lift, turn and control their head.

π™·πšŽπšŠπš πšŒπš˜πš—πšπš›πš˜πš• πšŠπšŒπšπš’πšŸπš’πšπš’πšŽπšœ

- prioritize tummy time (start assisted)
- side-lying play
- visual tracking (at various heights to encourage movement)
- vary carrying positions

These activities may look small and simple - but they are doing powerful neurological work behind the scenes:
β€’ building strength
β€’ supporting reflex integration
β€’ developing body awareness

A little support in the early days goes a long way🀍

Save this to come back to later for your daily play

If your baby prefers looking to one side β€” you’re not alone 🀍

This is something we see quite often, and in many cases, when caught early, intervention is a whole lot more effective.

The key is gentle awareness

Your baby’s movement patterns matter because they lay the foundation for everything that follows: rolling, crawling, posture, and coordination.

πŸ„ Save this post so you know what to look for

Aways trust your instinct β€” early intervention makes a big difference later on in their development.

Our next milestone that we will be having a look at is one that is often misunderstood or is used to determine how 'strong' baby is.

This milestone is a foundational milestone and is necessary to activate various system for future milestone development.

It links perfectly with tummy time, as baby is placed on the floor on their stomachs, their necks start to build the necessary strength to keep their heads up in order to see the world around them. In doing this their vestibular system is activated as they are working against gravity, their visual system is activated as they are in a position to view things at various angles around them, and they start to develop hand eye coordination.

Improved head control aids in improved breathing posture as well as aiding in feeding and swallowing.

~ Short frequent sessions rather than one long stretch.
~ Have baby on your chest or on your legs at first (keeping them at a slight angle at first before placing them fully onto their stomachs)
~ Keep them engaged and distracted - place mirrors, contrast cards or even their favorite toy close in front of them.
~ Place them on a softer surface to relieve some of the pressure on their stomachs.
~ You can even place a rolled up towel or blanket under their arms to assist their posture.

And remember..... consistency is key.
If at first they don't enjoy it, adjust and try again but do not stopπŸ˜‰
