This Too Shall Pass — Julia Samuel

One of the hardest things about difficult seasons…

is that while you’re inside them, they feel permanent.

The stress.
The uncertainty.
The emotional exhaustion.

It starts feeling like:
“This is just my life now.”

But Julia Samuel writes something incredibly important in This Too Shall Pass:

Human beings adapt to seasons so deeply that they forget seasons change.

And they do.

Not always quickly.
Not always comfortably.

But nothing stays exactly the same forever.

Not pressure.
Not grief.
Not struggle.
Not survival mode.

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is stop treating a temporary season like a permanent identity.

The Happiness Advantage — Shawn Achor

Most people have the formula backwards.

They think:

“I’ll be happy when life calms down.”
“I’ll feel better when things improve.”
“I’ll rest once everything is sorted.”

But life doesn’t really work like that.

Because if your nervous system is constantly living in stress, pressure, and survival mode…

your body never fully experiences the life you’re trying so hard to build.

Shawn Achor writes about this beautifully:
your internal state affects everything.

Your clarity.
Your energy.
Your resilience.
Even the way you experience problems.

And honestly?
I think a lot of people have forgotten what it feels like to feel settled inside themselves.

Not excited.
Not distracted.

Just… calm.

📚 Not Nice — Dr Aziz Gazipura

Some people spend their whole lives trying not to disappoint others.

So they say yes when they mean no.
Stay quiet when something bothers them.
Keep the peace while slowly losing themselves in the process.

And because they’re “nice”…
everyone assumes they’re fine.

But constantly suppressing yourself has a cost.

The body carries it.
The mind carries it.
Relationships carry it.

Dr Aziz Gazipura writes about this so well in Not Nice.

Being kind is healthy.

But abandoning yourself to keep everyone else comfortable isn’t kindness.

It’s self-erasure.

At some point, you realise:
peace kept at your own expense is not really peace at all.

You’re still coping.

That’s why you haven’t stopped.

You get through the day.
You meet the expectations.
You handle what needs to be handled.

From the outside — nothing is wrong.

But underneath:

The body doesn’t switch off.
The tension doesn’t fully release.
Recovery never really happens.

Because coping keeps you going.

It doesn’t bring you back.

If you’re always “fine”… but never fully okay, your body might need more than rest.

Before the body forces a stop…
it starts with small changes.

Not dramatic.

Just different.

Sleep feels lighter.
Patience runs shorter.
Muscles stay slightly tight.
Energy dips faster than it used to.

Easy to brush off.

Because you can still function.

That’s what makes it dangerous.

Because functioning hides what’s building.

The body doesn’t jump from fine to burnout.

It moves through stages.

And most people only notice…
when it’s already loud.

If things have been feeling slightly “off” for a while, it might not need pushing through.

It might need attention.

“Nothing is wrong.”

That’s what people say.

Because the tests are clear.
There’s no diagnosis.
Nothing obvious.

But something still doesn’t feel right.

The body feels tense.
Sleep isn’t deep.
Energy isn’t consistent.

So it gets dismissed.

Ignored.

But not everything the body experiences
shows up as something “medical”.

Sometimes it’s simply a system
that has been under pressure for too long.

And you’re feeling the result of that.

Not because something is broken.

Because something has been building quietly.

If your body has been giving you signals that don’t make sense, it might be worth looking at it differently.

Not Everything That Feels “Off” Is Obvious

There’s a stage people don’t really talk about.

Nothing is dramatically wrong.

You’re still functioning.
Still doing what needs to be done.
Still showing up.

But something feels… off.

You can’t quite explain it.

You’re more tired than you should be.
More tense than you realise.
Less settled than you used to feel.

So you carry on.

Because it’s not bad enough to stop.

And that’s exactly why it continues.

Because the body doesn’t always force change immediately.

It allows you to continue…
while quietly holding the load.

Until eventually, it asks a bit louder.

Not because it failed.

Because it waited.

If something has been feeling “off” for a while, it might not need more effort.

It might need attention.
