Heavy work activities provide proprioceptive input, which helps the nervous system feel more calm, organised and regulated. 🧠

Simple activities like jumping, pushing, pulling or carrying heavy objects help provide deep pressure input through the muscles and joints.

These activities can be especially helpful before schoolwork, homework or quieter seated tasks.

Examples include:
• jumping trampoline
• animal walks
• wall push-ups
• carrying groceries
• pushing a laundry basket

~

Hierdie aktiwiteite kan veral help voor skoolwerk, huiswerk of ander sittende take.

Voorbeelde sluit in:
• trampolienspring
• dierestappies
• muur weg stoot
• dra van inkopie-sakke
• stoot van ’n wasgoedmandjie

Sensory seeking often get labeled as bad behaviour, but it’s not. It’s a child’s way of trying to get the sensory input their body needs to feel more regulated and organised. 🌿

This may look like:
• constant movement
• crashing or jumping
• rough play
• difficulty sitting still
• chewing on objects

Understanding the reason behind the behaviour helps us support children with empathy, connection and appropriate sensory input.

~

Dit kan lyk soos:
• konstante beweging
• bots of spring
• rowwe spel

Sensory Integration is the way the brain receives and organises information from the senses. 🧠

This includes sensory information from:
👁️ sight
👂 sound
👄 taste
👃 smell
🖐️ touch
🏃 movement
🤸 body awareness

This plays an important role in attention, learning, movement, emotional regulation and behaviour.

Some children experience sensory input differently, which can affect how they participate in everyday activities. Occupational therapists support sensory development through play and movement. 🌿

~
