More than just a ball game
Nicky, our Paediatric Neuro Developmental Physiotherapist, is working with this child to push down on a large ball, bounce it and catch it, she’s working on so much more than catching:
This fun activity targets:
✨ Core and upper-body strength
✨ Balance and postural control
✨ Motor planning and coordination
✨ Hand-eye coordination
✨ Timing and force grading
The particularly interesting part
The sequence push → throw → bounce → visually track → catch requires the child to integrate several motor systems. Nicky is looking at this little one’s ability to plan and execute a movement, adjust it based on what happens, and maintain postural control throughout.
Playful activities like these help children build the foundations they need for confident, coordinated movement.
