A special part of working at the Comrades Marathon was meeting ultra-runner Aleksandr Sorokin from Lithuania. This European champion looked remarkably comfortable after having just run 85.77km!

Aleksandr is one of the most accomplished ultra-distance runners in the world. His achievements include winning the IAU 24-Hour World Championship, the IAU 24-Hour European Championship, and the legendary Spartathlon. He is also a multiple world record holder in events including 100 km, 100 miles, 12 hours, and 24 hours.

What impressed me most was his humility and friendly nature despite an extraordinary list of achievements. Meeting athletes of this calibre is one of the many privileges of being involved in the Comrades Marathon.

Congratulations to Aleksandr on yet another outstanding performance, and thank you for inspiring runners and sports medicine professionals alike.

A Proud Milestone for Debbie Cameron Physiotherapy

We are delighted to share some exciting news! Debbie Cameron, founder and owner of Debbie Cameron Physiotherapy, has officially graduated with her Master of Science in Physiotherapy from the University of Pretoria.

This achievement represents years of dedication, perseverance, sacrifice, and a deep commitment to providing the highest standard of care to every patient who walks through our doors.
Debbie's research focused on injuries in ultra-trail runners, exploring how biological s*x differences influence injury patterns, risk factors, and the tissues most commonly affected. Her work contributes to a growing body of knowledge that supports more personalised, evidence-based approaches to injury prevention and rehabilitation.

As friend and colleague Rob Gibson, Specialist Physiotherapist and Consultant, recently shared:
"Very few people reach this level academically and professionally, and it is something you should be incredibly proud of. I know how much dedication, sacrifice, perseverance, and hard work goes into completing a Master's degree, especially while balancing clinical practice and life's many demands. This is a significant milestone and a wonderful reflection of your commitment to your profession and the people you serve."

One of Debbie's key findings showed that increased experience reduces injury risk for both men and women, highlighting the importance of education, training, and tailored rehabilitation strategies.

For our patients, this means:
• Enhanced expertise in injury prevention and rehabilitation
• More evidence-based, personalised treatment approaches
• A deeper understanding of tissue loading, healing, and recovery
• Improved care for runners, active individuals, and those managing recurring injuries

We are incredibly proud of Debbie and look forward to continuing to bring the latest research and clinical excellence to our community.

Please join us in congratulating Debbie on this outstanding achievement.
