There’s something positive about women finally having language for symptoms they may have ignored for years.

But irregular periods + acne + hair changes do not automatically equal PCOS.

Those symptoms can have several possible causes, which is why the next step after thinking, “This sounds like me,” should be a proper assessment.

Use social media to start the question; not finish the diagnosis🌸

While we’re opening windows and clearing cupboards this spring, have a look at the medicine cabinet too😅

Check for expired medication, old prescriptions, forgotten supplements and products you’re taking without really remembering why.

And if your supplement shelf has quietly become a small pharmacy, this may be a good time to ask your doctor or pharmacist what you actually still need.

A little spring cleaning can apply to your health routine too🤍

Fertility can be one of those subjects where everyone seems to have an opinion; but very few people explain the actual medical picture.

So, we’re answering some of the questions women ask most often, without the fear, pressure or fertility myths.

If there’s a question about fertility you've been quietly Googling, this is your sign to ask it.

What should Dr. Palesa Kennedy answer next?

Aesthetic gynaecology isn't simply about appearance.

It can address changes affecting comfort, function and intimate wellbeing; including those associated with childbirth, ageing or other life stages.

Some questions about women’s health are easier to whisper than to ask. Aesthetic gynaecology should not be one of them.

Whether your concern is about comfort, changes after childbirth, intimacy or simply understanding what has changed, it starts with a proper medical conversation.

You don't have to be embarrassed to ask🌸

There’s a lot of noise around fertility and age; from “you have plenty of time” to “35 is the deadline.”
Neither is particularly helpful.

Fertility changes with age, but 35 is not a cliff. And an AMH result is not a crystal ball - it gives us information about ovarian reserve, not a complete picture of your ability to conceive🩺

If you’re trying to conceive:
🤍 Under 35: consider an evaluation after 12 months
🤍 35 or older: consider an evaluation after 6 months
🤍 Over 40, or if you have risk factors: speak to your doctor sooner

Fertility conversations should be about information, timing and individual circumstances - not fear.

Your fertility deserves context, not a countdown.

A question from this month’s clinic conversations:
“Doctor, why is my hair thinning at the front?”

Hair changes can sometimes be one of the clues that something hormonal, nutritional or metabolic needs a closer look.

Rather than guessing, we investigate the bigger picture, because your symptoms deserve context; not assumptions🩷

PCOS is often spoken about as though it is simply a fertility condition. It isn’t.

Diagnosis is based on a combination of clinical history, symptoms, bloodwork and, where appropriate, ultrasound findings.

The Rotterdam criteria look at three key features:
🩺 Irregular or absent ovulation
🧬 Signs of elevated androgens
🔬 Polycystic ovaries on ultrasound

Importantly, infertility is not a requirement for diagnosis.

For many women, the first signs may be irregular cycles, acne, increased facial or body hair, or other hormonal changes - long before starting a family is even a consideration.

If your cycle has never quite made sense, it deserves more than guesswork.

It deserves a proper conversation, appropriate investigations and a personalised understanding of what your body is telling you.

On 9 August, we remember the women who marched to the Union Buildings and changed the course of our history.

Today, freedom also means having the knowledge, confidence and space to understand your own body; and to ask questions without shame, because a woman who understands her health is a woman better equipped to make informed choices for her life.

Her body. Her knowledge. Her freedom🩷

You’re handed a baby, a pamphlet, and a 6-week check-up date.

And somehow, in between, you’re expected to ‘bounce back’.

But the postpartum period is one of the most physically and emotionally complex seasons of a woman’s life — and it is chronically under-supported.

This week, we’re shifting focus. From fibroids to what happens after birth — because July is also Post-Partum Changes Awareness Month.

Your body grew a human. It deserves more than silence and the instruction to ‘rest when baby rests’.

Save this. Share this. And keep watching — there’s more coming this week.

🔖 Save this. Share it with a teenager or parent in your life.
