In this week's episode of Constellations & All That, I'm joined by my friend and colleague, Robyn Fergus, as we explore Family Constellations, shamanic healing, and the wisdom of Indigenous traditions.

Together, we reflect on connection, belonging, and the gentle ways our ancestors, nature, and community can support us on our healing journey.

If you've been feeling curious about this work, or simply need a quiet moment to reconnect with yourself, I hope this conversation meets you where you are.

Releasing the Burden of Responsibility
For many years, I didn't know that I carried that burden of self-imposed responsibility - I thought that the tight shoulders, asthma and a digestive system that needed care were just how my body was. The weight of the world on my shoulders manifested as calcification that had to be removed surgically.

I told myself that story that parents' divorce was a good one. Yet I discovered in a constellation that I carried the guilt my mother felt as the first person in her family's lineage to be a divorcee. That guilt sat in my lungs as asthma - once released, I no longer needed medication. (It was the constellation that encouraged me to become a facilitator.)

When my father was ageing and ill, I carried the responsibility of feeling that I alone had to take care of my father, and it was overwhelming. In a constellation, I gave back the responsibility of what belonged to the adults (my parents' divorce and the fallout) that I had taken on as a child and teenager. I moved back to my right place in the family system. By relinquishing the responsibility that was not mine, the weight of the overwhelming obligation to fix was removed, and instead I was able to support him from a place of love.

The Orders of Love (the foundation of constellation work) reminds us that everyone belongs and has a right place in the family system, that there needs to be balance in giving and receiving and that parents give and children receive. Life's circumstances and blind love cause these orders to be 'broken' - and the result is we take on responsibilities that are not ours.

The impact can be both physical illness and discomfort, emotional overwhelm, burnout, resentment, depression and anxiety, and perhaps shirking the responsibilities that are ours to carry - because it's all just too much.

The beauty of constellation work is that the field reveals where the Orders of Love need to be restored so that you no longer carry the burden of responsibility that is not yours to carry. In the next Constellation Circle, we open the field to look at what it feels like to relinquish responsibility so that we can walk through life with grace.

My wish is that we walk more lightly as we relinquish what is not ours to carry, so that we embrace what does belong to us - and do the work that brings healing and transformation.

One morning last month, I woke knowing that the Munay Ki Journey could not wait till next year. It's a call to come together in circle, to build a sense of belonging and trust. A space that invites change, allows your essence to emerge, your heart to open, to be reminded of what you love and, in the words of Bert Hellinger, to "recollect yourself".

In this new Munay Ki Journey we slow the pace and give more space for you to drop the repeated story that keeps you stuck, untangling it, so you can reignite your reason for being and be reminded of your gifts. Along with the ten Munay Ki rites, you receive shamanic teachings that support your journey and constellation exercises that facilitate the unwinding of family and ancestral entanglements. Your commitment to a daily practice, to work with the recently received rites and to engage with a chakra archetype from the Harmony rite, deepens the transformation that may emerge from this journey.

So what in the world are the Munay Ki Rites?
The ten Munay Ki Rites are a beautiful container for inviting transformation into your life. The rites mostly originate in Peru. Dr Alberto Villoldo originally shared these rites on the behest his teachers who felt that the West needed to share in the gifts of these karpay to deal with the energetic shifts we are experiencing. Some like the Creator and 13th Rite are more recent - yet still incredibly powerful.

At this time of the year, the river calls - with its coolness on the hot summer days, with the dappled shade, with bird song, with the gentleness of the water's flow. So the planned indoor constellation circle has moved outside, becoming a meditative morning.
We'll sit in stillness with the sound of water, and when we've landed, we will explore what it means to be in flow with the yes and no decisions to the choices in life with constellation exercises.

For those of you who are not on my mailing list - here's the newsletter I sent earlier this month.

This September, Inner Peace Healing turned 15, and the diviner in me came out of the closet. (Well, out of my healing room.)

From the time I knew I had to open a healing practice, before I could acknowledge that I was a healer, I felt an invisible hand guiding me as to which courses I should take. I signed up, mostly having no idea what I was going to learn, but I always found that it was exactly what I needed in my healer toolbox or for my own healing.

It was during my master reiki attunement with Miriam Platt that an ancestor first showed up. In a supposedly empty lounge chair in the circle sat my deceased paternal grandmother. Her presence was so strong that I had to introduce her to the group. Granny Vera loved Japan, so I put her presence down to Reiki’s origin in Japan. I now know it was so much more than that.

It was with the nudging of my ancestors that, at long last, also this September, I held my Divination Party four years after being initiated as a Diviner. It’s customary in the Dagara tradition*, once initiated as a Stick Diviner, to have a coming-out party a year or two later. The party is a celebration to root and ground one’s medicine and to share that a gate of healing has been opened in the area. If the amount of food consumed is an indication, it was a good celebration.

Over the past 16 years, one of my biggest challenges has been integrating all of my parts and not compartmentalising myself. It started with integrating the corporate analytical part and the good daughter/sister/wife part with the newly discovered healer part of me. Then came the more mystical parts, each of which peeled back another layer requiring acceptance and integration..

I think that it was partly from growing up in apartheid South Africa, where the communication with ancestors was misconstrued as possibly practicing black magic, and speaking to someone other than God was not okay (which used to confuse me as a child as Catholics prayed to so many saints). It was during the first year after leaving the corporate world, while training as a Field Guide, that I began to understand the deep connection with Nature and the honouring of their ancestors by the indigenous people of South Africa . I realised how blinkered my views on ancestors had been, and so started my journey to work with them. Now I cannot imagine life without knowing that my ancestors are there to support and guide me. So yes, it’s taken me a while to truly own my gifts as a healer, seer and diviner and then to celebrate them. And it’s on going.

Thank you to clients who came in the early days – when there was one small shelf of crystals – for the Osho Rebalancing Bodywork, Reiki, and Transformational Kinesiology and have kept coming back, trusting me as my offerings have grown and evolved over the years.

with love
Robyn

*The Dagara tradition comes from West Africa. It was introduced by the work of Malidome Somé, author of the book “The Healing Wisdom of Africa”.

Inner Peace Healing turned 15 this September and the diviner in me came out the closest (well out of my healing room).

What drives the yes and the no’s in your life?

As a Family Constellation unfolds, previously unseen aspects of our family system or parts of ourselves are revealed. The healing comes through acknowledging ‘what is’. This opens the flow of love in the family system. It’s saying ‘yes’, this did happen, it is not condoning what happened. Yes, used in this way brings healing.

People pleasers know all about always having to say yes. Not saying the ‘no’ that you want because of the ingrained sense of having to say yes – in order to belong and have a place. That type of yes comes at a cost – it is a no to yourself and keeps you small.

When you say no out of fear of the unknown, from stubbornness, feeling pressured, or because you don’t feel worthy to say yes, we close off the flow of life. A healthy ‘no’ sets boundaries.

What if you have the freedom to say yes and no from a place of strength? What is holding you back from feeling the expansiveness of personal choice?

In the next constellation circle, we will be exploring the yes in the no, and the no in the yes. And the interplay between your personal consciousness and family consciousness – the triggers of guilt and innocence that keep us trapped.

What is a Constellation Circle?
A Constellation Circle at Inner Peace Healing is a combination of Group Family Constellations and Constellation Exercises (Structured Constellations) facilitated by Robyn Fergus.

We start the morning in circle with a meditation.

The Constellation Exercises allow everyone who attends the Constellation Circle to do some personal work. The exercise relates to the theme of the Constellation Circle. Also referred to as a structured constellation, i.e. the roles of the representatives are stipulated as part of the exercise. They are done in silence in a group of 2 or 3 people, the only speaking is the healing sentences. Afterwards, there is time for sharing what arose. Over the past few years, I have witnessed beautiful shifts flow from these powerful short exercises.

Group Constellations flow out from the Constellation Exercises, i.e exploring an issue that may have been revealed and requires a more in-depth exploration.

If you want to be certain of having your own constellation, there are 2 spaces for pre-booked Family Constellations. These constellations can be on any issue that you wish to constellate.

During the morning, there is a tea break with snacks and a lunch break during which a light meal is served.

Depending on what arises during the session, a healing shamanic drum journey may be included.

The Constellation Circle is R480.

A pre-booked Family Constellation is R1350 (including the cost of the workshop).
