“My ostomy saved my life, and I will be forever grateful for the second chance it gave me.”
About to embark upon her life-long goal of a career in the Air Force, Deelia Moore found that fate had other plans for her when, right before shipping out, she experienced a big flare-up (having recently diagnosed with IBD).
Having been rushed to the emergency room, and following a colonoscopy, the results showed that Deelia actually had Ulcerative Colitis – her colon being so damaged that the removal of the colonoscopy scope had perforated her large bowel, leaving her in a state of sepsis. She was told she had three hours to live unless a temporary ileostomy was carried out.
After a whirlwind of change, Deelia was left out of hospital, weighing only 78 pounds and now unable to pursue her goal of joining the Air Force. She didn’t know where to turn.
But, surrounded by the love and support of her family and boyfriend (now husband), Josh, Deelia’s future is back on track. Living with Josh and two dogs, she’s making her way through nursing school and is working as a Pharmacy Technician. Now 100% clear of Ulcerative Colitis, her future is looking bright.
