NATIONAL KIDNEY AWARENESS WEEK
1–5 September

At Future Nurses Nursing School, we join the National Kidney Awareness campaign by reminding our students, families and communities that looking after your kidneys is an important part of looking after your overall health.

WHY ARE YOUR KIDNEYS IMPORTANT?

Your kidneys work around the clock to remove waste and excess fluid from your blood. They also help regulate blood pressure and maintain the balance of fluids and minerals in your body.

WARNING SIGNS TO LOOK OUT FOR:
• Swelling in the feet, ankles or hands
• Changes in urination
• Blood in the urine
• Persistent tiredness
• Nausea or loss of appetite

PROTECT YOUR KIDNEYS BY:
💧 Drinking enough water
🥗 Eating a balanced diet
🏃🏾‍♀️ Staying active and maintaining a healthy weight
🩸 Monitoring your blood pressure and blood sugar
🩺 Having regular health check-ups, especially if you have diabetes or high blood pressure

Future Nurses Nursing School is committed to preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals. We encourage our students and community to learn, raise awareness and make kidney health a priority.

Your kidneys work hard for you. Take care of them.

🌿🩺 Traditional Medicine Week 🩺🌿 26-31 August 2026

This week, we recognise the important role traditional medicine continues to play in many communities. Traditional medicines are often used alongside or instead of conventional healthcare, making it important for healthcare professionals to understand their use and have open, respectful conversations with patients.

At Future Nurses Nursing School, we believe that future nurses must be equipped with knowledge to support patients with safe and informed healthcare choices.

👩🏽‍⚕️Future nurses must be prepared to:
✅ Respect patients’ cultural beliefs and practices
✅ Encourage patients to disclose the traditional medicines they use
✅ Promote safe use and awareness of possible interactions
✅ Encourage patients to seek professional medical advice when needed

Let’s promote respectful communication, patient safety and informed healthcare choices in every community.

1 - 7 August 2026 📅 Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Heart Disease Awareness Week

This week, we join the global community in raising awareness about Rheumatic Fever (RF) and Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD)—conditions that can be prevented through early diagnosis and timely treatment.

Rheumatic fever is a serious inflammatory disease that can develop after an untreated streptococcal (strep) throat infection. If left untreated, it can permanently damage the heart valves, resulting in Rheumatic Heart Disease.

💡 Did you know? • Rheumatic Fever most commonly affects children and adolescents between the ages of 5 and 15 years. • Early treatment of strep throat with the correct antibiotics can prevent Rheumatic Fever. • Rheumatic Heart Disease remains a significant cause of preventable heart disease in many communities. • Early diagnosis and ongoing medical care can improve health outcomes and quality of life.

❤️ Protect your heart:
✅ Seek medical attention for a persistent sore throat or fever.
✅ Complete the full course of antibiotics as prescribed.
✅ Attend regular follow-up appointments if you have a history of Rheumatic Fever.
✅ Learn the signs and symptoms, and help raise awareness in your community.

At Future Nurses Nursing School, we believe that education is the foundation of prevention. By empowering future healthcare professionals and educating our communities, we can work together to reduce the burden of preventable diseases.

🩺 Prevention starts with knowledge. Healthy hearts start with early action.
