💉 Medicines can be unsafe in different ways.

💊 Falsified and substandard medicines are different problems, but both can put patients at risk.

Understanding the difference helps us detect, report and prevent harm.

Patient safety depends on safe, quality-assured medicines at every stage of the supply chain.

📣 The programme for the Africa Patient Safety Summit 2026 is taking shape.
With less than eight weeks to go, our Scientific Committee is now sharpening the sessions, confirming the perspectives that need to be represented and ensuring that the Summit leads to practical outcomes.

Patients and caregivers will remain visible throughout the programme.

The Africa Patient Safety Summit doesn't end when delegates leave Kigali. It's being designed as the beginning of a longer process through which priorities are agreed, responsibilities are identified and progress can be followed.

🗓️On 16–17 September 2026, we will bring the medicines ecosystem together in Kigali to confront the gaps between what our systems promise and what patients experience and to agree what must happen next to bring alignement between the two.

Was the medicine itself what it was supposed to be?

👩🏾‍⚕️ Dr Nomsa Tsikai shares her challenges as a clinical oncologist in Harare, and why quality medicine is patient safety, ahead of our Africa Patient Safety Summit this September in Kigali, Rwanda.
